Hi all, I have absolutely tried everything and my little one is still waking at least twice nightly looking for bottles 🙈

I have literally tried everything, changing times of solids, giving porridge before bed, a small amount of baby rice in her bedtime bottle. My health visitor said to give her porridge early in the day to 'fill her up' so I've also done that but to no avail.

Can someone please give me an idea of their similar ages baby's routine in terms of naps and feeding so I can maybe change things up again. I am determined to keep going as she is great in every other way, she self soothes to sleep at night and goes straight back to sleep when I give her the bottle she's looking so I just need to persevere 😬

TIA

What’s her usual routine? When does she wake? Was she premature?

LoisLittsLover · 02/05/2020 08:55

My dd woke until 18 months for feeds, I don't think 8 months is that unusual to be honest

She has her bottle in the morning pre 9am then porridge shortly after, I give her potatoes and veg or something similar for lunch followed by a wee yoghurt then she has a snack in the evening before her porridge around 7. Then it's bottle and bed for 7.30-8pm. She wasn't premature.

She has 2 naps per day, usually just over an hour around 10 then half an hour in the afternoon. She has also been crawling for a good while so I assumed that would also tire her out but no lol.

I guess as my older boy didn't wake so much I guessed it was maybe something I'm doing wrong but maybe it is just the way she will be.

I might put her into her own room soon though I'm a bit worried about having to go between both for several times a night so maybe we will just continue as we are and hope better times will come. I guess it's also understandable as they don't get anywhere or see many people these days so everything is strange

Is it possible to sooth her without a bottle in the night?

DS is almost 10 months wakes between 2.30am and 3.30am without fail since lockdown started (I think it's because he isn't going to nursery, so is out of routine)
I go into his room, lay him back down, tuck him in, rub his belly and sing him a lullaby, he's usually asleep within a few minutes, but we have had instances where he won't settle back down, so we're giving him a dummy (he usually only has it after we've brushed his teeth to go to sleep as he used to fall asleep on the bottle and then it falls out of his mouth once he's unconcious)

Ihaveoflate · 02/05/2020 10:26

Agree - try and settle in the cot first. We do back rubs and dummy if she ever stirs in the night, which is rare now.

My baby at 9 months is still on 3 bottles a day plus 3 meals and a mid-morning snack. Does yours have just the 2 bottles a day? If she's waking out of genuine hunger could you try offering an extra milk feed during the day? If you're sure she's not hungry, you could try offering water when she wakes, or start reducing the night bottle gradually.

Sorry if you've tried all this already!

ScarfLadysBag · 02/05/2020 10:28

My DD was having night feeds till a year. If she settles back down after then I'd just keep doing it for now.

Just realised you asked for routines, so here it is for 9 mo FF baby in own room:

6:30 wake up (fixed time, we don't go to her earlier even if she wakes as long as she's happy to wait)
6:45 7oz bottle
8:00 breakfast (Weetabix or porridge with fruit puree)
9:00 nap for 1.5 hours
10:30 snack (water and rice cakes)
12:00 lunch (sandwich, pepper/cucumber/ tomato slices, fruit and yoghurt)
14:00 nap for 45 mins
15:00 6oz bottle
17:30 tea (whatever we eat)
18:30 6oz bottle
18:45 bed

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 02/05/2020 10:51

Ahhh sorry I missed your routine question too! It looks pretty similar to @Ihaveoflate

7am: wake and 7oz bottle, he occasionally wakes at 6.30, but we leave him in his cot
9am: breakfast - toast/weetabix/porridge and a bit of fruit
11am: nap, 45min to an hour.
1pm: lunch - sandwich/pasta with fruit and a cheese stick or biscuit or whatever dh and I are having if possible
3pm: 5oz-7oz bottle and nap (he's taken to not finishing this one)
5.30pm: dinner - whatever dh and I have and a yoghurt or rice pudding pot
7pm: bath, story and 7oz bottle bed

I have tried giving him snacks but he's very rarely interested, doesn't even have them at nursery.

Following to learn any secrets. My 18 month old still wakes up twice a night for milk. He spends his whole day eating too and has a little beer belly on him, I just don't see how he needs anymore over night!!

caaad90 · 02/05/2020 12:54

She never gives in being soothed with her dummy, she literally throws it back out of the cot at me 🤣 she also has extra bottles during the day as needed so I definitely don't think she could be hungry during the night, I definitely think it's more habit 🙈

Thanks for all the routine suggestions, I will definitely have a look and see if we can introduce anything different
