Hi

I have just had my first baby. Baby is 11 days old. I started ebf. It was super hard. Baby was not taking well and wouldnt settle. We were discharged and baby was readmitted because of Jaundice and weight loss. At day 5 i therefore started formula, and she has gained weight and had been treated for jaundice. At day 7/8 my milk finally came and i starter baby on the boob again. I managed to express around 1.5 oz but i am barely getting any milk from expression. She latches on perfectly but wont take the boob for longer than 10 to 15 mins max. I should add i think my ducts are a little blocked and i have been put on anti biotics for an infection internally because my uterus is not movig down quick enough (and to help with the ducts).

Can anyone offer any advice?

What can i do to increase my supply?
What can i do to keep baby on the boob more?
I dont mind combine feeding (a fed baby is the best approach) but i dont seem to be producing enough milk. She is a happy baby and drinks up to 3 oz of formula every 3 to 4 hrs.

Firstly congratulations
Don't worry too much re length of time on the boob my lo is a really efficient feeder and a whole feed can last anywhere between five and 10 mins
I can never express much and personally I wouldn't even bother this early on
The only way to up your supply would be to keep offering the boob it's supply and demand so the more baby takes the more you make
As long as you're getting plenty of wet and poopy nappies you're doing good
Keep at it
I'm currently ebf my 3 month old and I ebf my 2 year old we struggled to start but got there in the end it was well worth preserving
Keep up the good work

How often are you breastfeeding? How many wet/dirty nappies are you getting? Theres a fab group on facebook called breastfeeding younger babies and beyond that gives great advice. My DD is almost 6 months and I've combi fed, usually one bottle at night. Be aware that the more you feed, the better your supply. How much you can express isn't a reliable indication of how much baby is getting, they're so much more efficient! Keep going, bfing is the hardest thing I've ever done but I'm so proud I continued. You're doing a great job!
