£100 baby gift

Someone has very generously offered to buy us a baby gift worth £100.

We have everything we need for a newborn but does anyone have any recommendations for things when baby gets bigger?

I was wondering about a jumperoo- was planning to pick one up second hand but maybe a new one would be nice? Any other ideas very welcome!

What about something like a toy storage box, that will last a lot longer than a jumparoo and is more personal. You could get the baby’s name put on it

The best thing we bought for our bebe was a jumperoo type thing. We only have a small house so bought one that folds down. My son loves it and has helped improved his neck strength.

I bought a jumperoo and at 7.5 months now she just hasn't taken to it so it all depends . But you will need a toy box. A big one. Maybe 2. Honest to god there are musical things and stacking cups EVERYWHERE I walk.

How about a class subscription for one or two terms of baby sensory or swimming?

Decent digital thermometer? Baby carrier? Travel cot?

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 29/04/2020 19:59

Yeah I'd go for a class subscription. Or at least plan to buy one, with Covid it may be a while before you get to use vouchers so holding onto the cash may be a better idea.

I bought a jumparoo second hand for £20, my DS loved it, but they are very expensive not sure if they are worth the full price!

Reusable wipes?
Swimming lessons?
A nice light weight buggy?
Tula sling?

Definitely not a jumperoo, they last such a small mount of time, it's a waste to buy new. Get something special baby will keep and use for many years. Toy box is a nice idea :)

A swing is a nice idea they last a good length of time and you can two different seats so it'll last for years. They could be in a swing from around 9 months.

Thanks all, these are all great ideas!

I agree that, although a jumperoo is great while it lasts, my son only used it for a few months before he grew out of it so I'm glad I got mine second hand. Definitely doesn't need to be new. I think a nice toy box (maybe one that doubles up like a seat for when child is older?) is a great idea. You will honestly find toys everywhere! If you have space to store until baby is older, my son got a trike for his first birthday (obviously we push him in it he is too young to peddle right now but it converts). Probably the best thing we ever spent a larger amount of money on but won't be useful until baby is older. A lightweight pushchair/pram is also a great idea.

Premium Bonds.

They are easy to 'cash in' if you decide in a few months or even years there is something you'd like your dc to have, or, if nothing comes to mind, your dc can take them over themselves as adults, and, you never know, there is also the chance they might win something.

Have a look at the Lanka Kade ark toys. We were given one for DD; cost much more than we could have afforded but was a lovely gift.

footprintsintheslow · 01/05/2020 08:29

Oooh what about a rainbow by Grimms. It looks gorgeous and is hand made and ethically sourced. It's really coming into its own with a 2 year old in our house.

BeautifulBirds · 01/05/2020 08:52

I'd go with money in savings or premium bonds. Premium bonds are better imo, as if you win you can put the winnings back in and buy more. Easy to get money back, no fees to pay etc.

You can add to them too and give them as a birthday gift later on in life.
