How to get my son to take a dummy?

Hi everyone :)

My son is almost 1, he had a dummy until he was 6 months old and he loved it, however he would wake up in the night so much crying for it so we weaned him off it.

I know it sounds weird that I want him to have it back, but he's been grinding his teeth quite badly and he keeps waking up in a lot of pain from it.

He also doesn't have any comforts during the night, he sleeps in his cot in his own room and has no attachments to white noise/blankets/teddies etc, so I think it would be nice now that he is old enough to reach for his dummy himself to give him it back for bed.

He's gotten into the habit of falling to sleep on his bottle so when he wakes in the night with pain from grinding his teeth, he just wants a bottle for comfort, I'm hoping to replace this with a dummy however he just doesn't know what to do with a dummy. He just takes it out and either plays with it or chews it (neither relaxing).

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Any tips and advice would be amazing :)

PLEASE only nice comments, thank you! :) Xx

No experience with the dummy thing as my boy(10m) never took one. I also grind my teeth in my sleep though and when I went to the dentist they gave me a mouth guard, I'm not sure if they would do it for small children but maybe something to ask about? My only thought is if you have already weaned him off he dummy do you want to go through that again at some point?

Speak to your HV or dentist, they might have suggestions for an alternative to the dummy. Is he teething? Do you think that's causing him to grind?
