Lunch ideas?

MummytoaprincessXo · 29/04/2020 09:54

My daughters nearly 10 months and I need some more lunch ideas. We have egg (scrambled, hard boiled, omelette), toast, pancakes, crumpets, vegetable sticks, cut up fruit.

We normally have porridge in the morning & then she’ll have the same as us for dinner (just cut up more).

We use some of the jars from cow & gate or ella’s kitchen but I’d like to make some foods that I could possibly freeze or refrigerate as it will be cheaper.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated? If there are good websites that will be great as well? Even better if you have homemade recipes!!

Thank you!!

Mini toastie, pesto pasta, tuna mayo, pea fritters, leftovers from dinner, hummus and so much soup! She loves the stuff, homemade or tinned.
Honestly anything we have, she does too.

This website is great in general: www.healthylittlefoodies.com/

I generally give DS what DH and I are having atm.
Past 2 weeks he's had:
eggy spaghetti
Bubble and squeek
Stir fry
Cheese on toast
Jam sandwiches
Hummus with cucumber, carrot and celery
Ham and cheese sticks with fruit
Chicken and rice
Fish pie
Omelette
I've also given him a few Ella's kitchen pouches and yoghurt.

Cheese scones
Breadsticks
Cubes of cheese
Avocado
Rice cakes spread with cream cheese
Pitta bread fingers
Cheese straws www.madeformums.com/baby/cheese-straws/ or twists littlegrazers.com/parmesan-and-spinach-cheese-twists/

Avocado on toast, or sandwich
Mine liked tinned sardines (the olive oil ones)
Pasta with a tomato sauce etc
Good quality fish fingers (not everyone approves)
Cauliflower cheese / broccoli cheese

I used to make different dips for toast fingers and veg sticks to mix it up a bit and get some protein and different flavours in, so things like carrot hummus, beetroot whizzed up with cream cheese, tuna with natural yoghurt and sweetcorn.

Wraps spread with something like cream cheese and rolled up and cut into pinwheels went down well too.

And potato wedges with things to dip in was good. Just chop a potato into big bits, toss them in some oil (and herbs or spices if you like) and cook for about 40 mins.

Thank you all! You’ve given me loads of ideas for lunch for the next few weeks! Can’t wait to get her to try them!

Thank you @SnowdropFox & @Ricekrispie22 for the links! Scrolling through the websites & loving the idea of making your own cheese straws (personally I love them & glad I can make them & probably make them healthier than buying them😂)

Quick side question:

cheese... we have cathedral city mature cheese in the house - can she eat this or is it best to buy a different type of cheese?

(First time mum and I don’t want to do anything wrong🤦🏼‍♀️)

Just whatever cheese is in the house. You'll find out their tastes (mature cheese or mild) as you go Smile

HebeMumsnet · 29/04/2020 10:34

OP, I think as long as you're keeping an eye on salt content any cheese is fine. I am a horrible cheese snob so made mine have medium cheddar and shifted them onto mature as soon as they would accept it. Anything else tastes like soap to me and I objected to having to eat it myself too!

But I believe nicer mothers than me go for mild cheddars. Anything you can all get on with should be fine.

@SnowdropFox & @HebeMumsnet - thank you both for the knowledge on cheese. I will have to introduce her to the wonderful world of cheese! Grin

My DD is the same age and she is obsessed with cheese! For lunch she’s just had fish cakes and blueberries, yesterday was cauliflower cheese but I’m always looking for new ideas too! Going to try the pinwheels soon!

@bloodyhellsbellsx don’t blame them cheese is brilliant!!! Try the cheese straws! I made them today & they are amazing!! Links in one of the comments above!! Very cheesy & my daughter loved them!!
