My ds (1yr 4mnths) has started climbing on EVERYTHING!! He's always been a bit of a daredevil but now he's bigger he's literally climbing on everything! He's had a few minor falls but that doesn't stop him he gets straight back up and does it again. I've obviously tried telling him no, removing him, shouting no etc but he just doesn't care! Or throws himself of the floor and has the biggest tantrum known to man! I wouldn't even mind him climbing but he just has no awareness to danger and literally steps off whatever he's on no matter how high Shockwe've already had remove our table and various other things because of this!

Could you get something that he's allowed to climb on as an outlet? A mini indoor climbing frame or something. Then when he starts climbing on something else - "that's not for climbing" works better for us than "No". DS (nearly 14 months) finds the word No hilarious

Having the same problem with DS 15mo. He thinks it's hilarious to throw himself backward off the sofa or the bed or anything really. Meanwhile, I am breaking out in sweats trying to anticipate his every move and catch him.

He climbs up on the bay windowsill and tries to open the windows too (luckily they are childproof).

If I say "no" or even "ah-ah" or "don't do that" he gets on the floor and starts screaming.

So, no advice, just sympathy.

Mine was like this - I got rid of the coffee table, hid the dining room chairs (he would use them to get to the dining table), locked all the drawers shut so he couldn't use them as steps, and tried not to leave him on his own for more than a few seconds. I also stopped reacting and just removed him from things when he managed to get up. He also hurt himself a few times, but nothing bad enough for a&e (although him swan diving off the sofa arm was a judgement call).

The good news is he's mostly grown out of it already. The bad news is he's still an adrenaline junkie and at 2 now seems to be on a quest to see how fast he can get his balance bike before it falls apart. I also occasionally still walk in on him using the back of the sofa as a balance beam. I just tell him to get down now though, and he does.

Counting the days until a gymnastics or climbing club will take him.

It gets easier.
