What do you do during your toddler's lunchtime nap?

Just that really.. curious as to how many people use the chance to put their feet up vs do the chores etc.

Ds sleeps for 1 hour 15 mins and I find i do the same thing every day, clean kitchen, drink coffee, lose the rest of the time down a Mumsnet rabbit hole....

What do you get up to during that glorious chunk of "me time" (if you get it!!)

Sit in the chair with him as the little angel refuses to nap in his cot at the moment. Currently asleep, lying across my lap with one arm stuck underneath him, so I’m going nowhere!

walkwalk · 27/04/2020 12:50

@IronyFreeAnnie I have been there!! How old is your LO? Hope you're enjoying the snuggles :)

Feet up watching tv, it's amazing!

Clean down kitchen after lunchtime chaos, tidy toys, put on wash, eat lunch, Mumsnet (obviously!), check email and get ready to start work! (I have DS until nap time and then DH takes over in the afternoon while I WFH)

GrumpySausage · 27/04/2020 12:54

My dd is nearly 2 and she luckily will have a two hour nap in the afternoon. At the moment I'm wfh on some days, but when we're in our usual routine on my 2 days off, I will do some tidying (as little as I can get away with) and then usually put some of 'my' TV on. Its the only chance I get otherwise.

I need that time to decompress or I get grumpy!

Rodentsinmygarden · 27/04/2020 12:55

Mine is 4 and doesn't nap any more but when he did (for 3 - yes 3! glorious hours) I would just veg out for the most part. Make myself a lovely lunch, read my book or play on my phone, watch telly, have a little nap myself. I suppose I could have used to the time to learn mandarin or clean etc but sod that!

Firsttimelottie · 27/04/2020 12:55

Coffee and tv usually.

Sometimes a nice mid day bubble bath!

Occasionally music through headphones and cleaning.

This ended a couple of years ago now and I do miss it sometimes!

userabcname · 27/04/2020 13:00

Lol, toddlers nap??!

Struggle345 · 27/04/2020 13:11

Before lockdown would be a mix of cleaning/putting my feet up to watch tv.
I'd clean the bathroom/kitchen (hoovering a no no as she would wake up immediately lol) tidy whatever rooms etc and then treat myself to watching whatever was stacked up on my recordings!
Nowadays its working from home and trying to fit in 4 hours of work into a 1 1/2 hour nap because once she's awake i don't get much done :( I really miss having those naptimes to myself.

Sexnotgender · 27/04/2020 13:13

Eat lunch in peace! Prep dinner. Do some chores. I’m WFH full time so it’s nice to get stuff done.

riotlady · 27/04/2020 13:14

Have my own lunch, little bit of tidying, watch the telly

IronyFreeAnnie · 27/04/2020 13:20

@walkwalk He’s 15 months now. Think we had about a two week period where he would nap in the cot before he clearly decided that sprawling over me was the way to go! Loving the snuggles, but would also occasionally really like to have a hot cup of coffee 😃

MichelleOR84 · 27/04/2020 19:59

@IronyFreeAnnie 😂 my baby would only nap in my arms too ! Now he’s 14 months and will only nap in his crib . I miss those days !!!

@walkwalk I sometimes clean but usually I nap . I’m also pregnant again so exhausted!

twinkledag · 27/04/2020 20:00

Sleep 😂

bakingdemon · 27/04/2020 20:05

Tidy up lunch, make myself a cup of tea and read the paper while I drink it (maybe sitting in the sunshine outside), some chores that DS gets too in the way for like cleaning the floor or tidying, maybe a Peloton ride if I have the energy and time, catch up on some work if necessary. DS currently naps for 2 hours usually which is a nice chunk of time.

walkwalk · 27/04/2020 20:46

Thanks for your replies!

To all those who mention their LO naps for 2 hours plus, do you not find it affects their sleep at night??!

I wake mine up after an hour and a bit as it seems to help with bedtime hyper craziness a little... he's always been a shocking sleeper at night so maybe it's just the way he is...

I used to hold him for all naps too, and imagined that when he would finally settle in cot I would be so productive during his nap.. ha..ha

Lunch time nap. I fucking wish.

I'm either driving her round, holding her or pushing her round in the buggy.

Not mine. He slept 7-7 and napped 12-3. When he was a baby he used to nap 8am-10am and 12-3 and then sleep 6-6. I've stopped at one kid as I know I'll never be that lucky a second time 😂

No, not at all. Don't wake a sleeping baby! 😀

Sexnotgender · 28/04/2020 09:21

DS is nearly 15 months. Sleeps around 2hrs during the day and sleeps 6/6.30pm-5am. Working on pushing bedtime back!

Phifedean123 · 28/04/2020 10:27

2 year old usually has 1-3ish. Sleeps 8pm-6.30am I'm happy with it and he seems happy.
At the moment I'm sleeping too during his nap then waking up and feeling annoyed at myself for not doing something productive 😂

Sewinginscotland · 28/04/2020 12:46

DS naps 1.5-2hrs at 18 months, having just dropped his morning nap. I like to sew! I've made so much stuff in the last 18 months. Sometimes I watch TV and chill.

I'm pregnant at the moment, so I often read/have a nap instead.

One thing I refuse to do is housework! Naptime is for me.
