Head lice

I am mortified. We got rid of head lice just before the lockdown and probably gave up the combing before we should have done. I've just looked through my DDs hair and found that she has loads, more than she had the first time round, and DS had them too. I've treated with the Full Marks I had left from last time and combed about 3 times with a nitty gritty. Is there anything I can do to stop them coming back, other than the obvious of not stupidly stopping before I should? Neither of my DC can tolerate the nitty gritty comb for long periods. DD has long, thick (but thankfully, straight) hair and she gets quite upset when I comb it. What can I do to stop hurting her? I feel dreadful and I'm horrified I haven't picked up on it earlier.

Is full marks a mousse?
You need the oily stuff that smothers the lice. Has to be left on.
Or comb. Properly. Every three days for 21.

Hedrin is the best.

HappyBirthdayQueenieMarm · 25/04/2020 21:42

Didnt need to comb curly thick hair, didnt need to repeat, was horrible infestatiin, hedrin sorted it all out.changed and hot washed all bedding, vacuum and eothet wash or leave bagged ir in freezer items around head or soft toys that cant be washed.

Conditionner and nitty gritty is torture and so unnecessary. Hedrin doesnt cause lice to develop immunity either.

Read the instructions as it will also tell you to treat all household in the same time and dont skimp on hedrin application.

Thanks all, I'll look at Hedrin if this Full Marks hasn't done the job. I feel so stupid. I feel like a crap parent that I haven't noticed it and now I guess I'm being punished as I found one in my hair this morning.

Hedrin once kills lice and eggs but leaves you oily. Hedrin all in one shampoo kills lice and loosens eggs to make them easier to comb out but doesn’t kill them, but it does leave your hair lovely!
As we are on lock down, I’d go for the oily stuff.

Full Marks is the best. It is the most expensive after all and it smother them. It is just that no treatments get rid of eggs. Hence you need to treat twice. Once to get rid of adult lice and then 5-6 days later to kill the babies that have hatched. Leave it longer between and you have eggs again.

I feel you! Im currently battling myself for a while now...2 youngest DDs 11 and 7 have had them for a while now..I have spent so much money and so many hours combing etc and everytime I think I have gotten them gone they come back 😤 I'm praying the lockdown is gonna help get rid of these nasty buggers

Visiomed Zap'x Special Nits Comb VM-X200 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MEGTI30/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_2XFPEb3Q2SN7T

This is the best comb. We all have thick curly long hair and this is the only one we can get through our hair. It's not electric but it works. We had 6 weeks of morning and evening combing due to table mate in primary. This is really the best option - we did it sitting in a chair leaning over news paper or a magazine.

Thank gif they're all teens now.

Thanks all for the advice and no judgement. I still have to work during lockdown as I am NHS staff. My hair looks oily and disgusting as I couldn't get the Full Marks out properly, but I wear it up so it shouldn't show.

Put shampoo on dry hair, massage, then add water and lather. If you wet hair first its difficult to get rid of oil.
