Fussy eating

Not sure where to post this i hope it's ok
I have a 3yo D and a 2yo son. My daughter is a good eater, went through a fussy phase about 18 months/2yo then back to usual.
My son had always been fussy since weaning. I don't think he's ever eaten fruit. Ever. Always offered multiple times a day since he was 6 mo. Did a mixture of baby led and spoon fed at 6mo to wean. Eats barely any veg. Broccoli occasionally and sometimes frozen peas. Always reluctant to try anything new. Favours plan carbs like pasta/rice and will tolerate some mince/chicken if in a familiar dinner. I try and keep meal times stress free and gently encourage new food but never force, I thought he would grow out of it by now but no luck. Please does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you

Sounds like you're doing everything right.

Keep presenting a range of foods.
Always give him something he will eat so he isn't hungry/you're not worrying about him starving.
Present and take away food with no comment (no praise if he tries something new, no bribery, no cajoling etc).

Other than that it's just time and waiting it out.

Thank you for your reply. I'm just so concerned it won't sort itself out and it will be harder to reverse the older he gets? What age should I seek help from a dietician/whoever? He was always getting ill so had bloods done and showed he was low Iron so already on iron supplements and I do give multivitamins to boost his immune system but it's already effecting him negatively I just want him to be open to trying new stuff Sad

Hi, my DC is nearly two and also a fussy eater and has always been so since the start of weaning. Altho she loves most fruit, basically anything sweet! Me and DH are reading 'My Child Won't Eat' by Dr. Carlos Gonzalez and it's really interesting. We are going to try out his tips and see if they improve anything for us as a family.

We have seen an NHS dietician 3 times for my ds who is now 11. He was around 3 years old the first time. It is worth asking your GP if they can refer you. Unfortunately I don't think my son will ever change.

Yes I might ask. Did your son have/had similar issues to mine? I'm asking as I'm wondering if it's just something he may grow out of or might just be how he is

weewinnie my ds had a lot of problems with food. He was gagging a lot, had problems chewing. Hated the feeling of food in his mouth. I think all these things led to him being scared of food. It is definitely more than fussy eating. The dietitian could not help with the eating but did let me know if he needed any supplements and suggest small changes I could try to increase the range of food he is eating.

I hope your ds will eat more as he gets older. I am still hopeful that my ds will.
