Please help! Have a little girl who will turn 1 in June. However really struggling with what to buy her. She already had ball pit, paddling pool, swing, shape sorters, ride on toy. She's generally a very active little girl, but mainly shows interest in books over toys. Ftm mum here with no idea what sort of things a 1 year old will like.

If she likes books how about a story sack? You pick a book and then some characters or toys to go along with it - you can buy them online ready made too I think.

Glove or finger puppets?

We got DS a play kitchen at 18 months that's been a real hit.

I second books, and the kitchen. We bought our DD a kitchen for her first birthday. She plays with it every day. We also bought her a walker for the first Christmas (4 weeks after her birthday) which she now loves and uses at 17 months.

I posted this on another thread the other day, but my DD's favourite first birthday gift was this:

The Puppet Company - Traditional Story Set - Nursery Rhymes Finger Puppet and Book set https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0099RKCNU/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_YdgPEb76B38G3

We subsequently got a bunch more, including this set:

Dear Zoo - Book and Finger Puppets Set https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IAOKWEW/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_qegPEbRFNTYAZ

And we play with them for hours a day! We use them in songs, stories, she can bring me ones I ask her to, we do animal noises. They're brilliant. Today she learned how to put them on her own fingers too!

I enthuse about them to every parent I meet Grin

We bought a rocking horse for dc's first birthday. It's still played with 2.5 years on.

As above, the play kitchen sent down well and still gets used.

My DS has a tunnel with a little pop up tent at one end. He loves it.
He also loves his wooden click-clack track, pull along puppy and his push along parrot!

We got dd a smart trike and one of those bouncy zebras for her first birthday - got them both on ebay so paid less than £20 each

Ginfordinner · 25/04/2020 17:21

I bought DD a Noah's ark with animal shaped for her to put the animals through.

If you're happy to spend a bit more, a rainbow bug. Can be used for climbing and also to create a tunnel, or flipped upside down for a little reading nook.

Thank you all for the replies. Play kitchen is a good idea, just wasn't sure if she would be too young to play with. Definately look into story sacks and finger puppets too. We already have a few glove puppets which she loves

Got a plastic garden rocking horse that went down a treat at that age. Think it was about £20. A ride on toy something bug? Looked like a ladybird with 4 x swivel wheels, she adored that. Played with it until she was far too big for it.
Books - all the Julia Donaldsons to choose from
Oliver Jeffers - some are appropriate but you are buying above her age to grow into. I'd start with Stuck or Lost and Found or The Way Back Home. They are gloriously calming.
Classic books for when she is older as it's a milestone birthday?

I find that it's a milestone for a parent but kids at that age get new stuff a lot. Everyday is a birthday, it doesn't need to be a BIG present. Don't stress.
