Following this thread as my son will be 2 soon. He does however have a toy kitchen which he likes and I'm hoping will like more as he grows up.

Little collapsible pushchair and doll
Shopping trolley and play food
Picnic/tea party set (there are cheap ones in supermarkets, or a £££ Emma Bridgwater Set that is lovely) so they can do teddy bear tea parties and ‘cook’ food
Fancy dress costumes (tk maxx is good for these)
Duplo - the toy train is great for basic blocks
And always a book!

At that age my DD loved role play, especially her wooden kitchen and play food. For her 2nd birthday she got a brio train set.

If you have a garden, how about a ride on or cosy coupe car or a slide for the garden?

Smaller things- play doh, sticker books, usborne lift the flap books, jigsaw puzzles

This is popular in our house:

Lelin Wooden 2 in 1... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076B7K85J?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

It's a box with magnetic/dry wipe/ chalk surfaces and inside are magnetic coloured shapes to make pictures with.

Also for boys and girls a cheap toy buggy. Everyone loves ours.

Brio railway (or comptible versions) is great as you can start small and add to it.

I always suggest vtech playtime bus, if you are going to have a push button "educational" toy it doesnt take up much space, has loads of tunes and is very long lasting. And is a push along bus too!

That looks great @footprintsintheslow!

My 2 year old loves his toy food/shop and buggy as well. And the Melissa and Doug brushes set - he loves pretending to clean!

I tell you what we use all the time is a tuff tray. It can be used for sand, water, table for small world toys, a table for craft, she sits in the tray on the floor when it's not on the legs, you can use it as a reading den when they are older and she likes it as a giant puddle to splash in one the floor. Get on Pinterest for tuff tray ideas.
