My 12 month old has been having completely formed/hard poop like adult texture

Is this normal?
she’s also been straining a. Lot too..
I just thought since she’s eating so much solid foods now that’s why.. she’s also still breastfeed
I asked dr about it like a week ago and they said more fruit & veg which I’ve been doing ..
I just thot she was straining since her poop is hard now and and that she’s eating 3 meals & when she wants two snacks anday.. breast milk and water although it’s hard to get her to drink water..
so no I’m wondering if maybe she’s no getting enough breastmilk/water since I give her plenty of fruit and veg..

My wee ones fluctuate between pretty solid to much softer. Is she still doing lots of wet nappies?
Have you tried things like prunes or yogurt?

My baby is 13 months and his nappies depend on what he's been eating. When he's not drank as much water his poo tends to be harder than if he has been drinking lots of water in addition to milk, 3 meals a day etc. Like the other person said, try pureed prunes if/when they're straining, as they're basically trying to get the poo out but can't, kinda like adults!

Do you use bottles too or has she only ever had her milk from you? Initially we had to hold our baby's water cup whilst he drank and it's only been this last month or so where he's been happy doing it himself AND actually taking in fluids.

Do you mean it's a formed poo rather than a cow pat? Sounds ok as long as its not dry like rabbit droppings.

My 11 month olds poos look like adult poo now she sometimes gets upset but they mush in the nappy when squeezed so arnt too solid/constipated. I just presumed as she ate the same as me her poo would be similar..

Karorev · 23/04/2020 14:24

She won’t eat the prune purées anymore. She will only only if she can feed herself and she can’t use. Spoon yet and she doesn’t let me feed her. I do cut up pears a lot , sometimes I mix in prune purée with her oatmeal (which she feeds herself doesn’t let me lol)

Ya I help her with the cups. Have tried a bunch different ones. She’s just rarely wants it

Sometimes they won’t mush up so guess it’s too hard.. I thin she just needs water !! I’m gonna have to figure out ways to make her drink it I think

BM is a natural laxative but it's often dehydration

How much banana is she having- that can solidify things a bit (we wished DS would eat more of them when he was still pooing in nappies, so up til a month ago)

Cardboard33 · 24/04/2020 08:12

Odd question but do you drink much water when you're around her? The reason I ask is because I drink A LOT of water and always have done and my son is much happier to drink water when I'm drinking it too from my water bottle than he is with his dad, who rarely drinks anything even at meal times. I guess now she's 12 months you could experiment with adding some very diluted squash or juice into the water to see if she will take that instead? Or buy the flavoured still water bottles? Does she have a favourite fruit?

Karorev · 24/04/2020 15:32

The only thing I drink is water.. and a cup of coffee in the morning, and I’m with her 100 percent of time so yes.. I try to her her get sips from my water bottle (itts too hard for her to use)

I stopped giving her banana bc of that..

Ya so I’m pretty sure she has a cows milk allergy breaks out in hives.. so I’m gonna see what else they will suggest to give her for dehydration..
