The end of a breastfeeding journey

So my DD turned 3 yesterday, tonight was the first time in 3 years she has gone to sleep without being breastfed to sleep. She was really upset at first and cried and cried but I gave her a hot chocolate with cream on top to ease her pain and after that she came in for a cuddle and fell asleep. I was amazed. I feel like I've won a little battle tonight by not giving in when she cried, she kept telling me she just wanted a little bit. It was also horrible knowing that I could have taken her upset away in a second by giving in and that our special little thing we have between us is coming to an end. Tell me how and when your breastfeeding journeys ended.

Oh I hate the end!! All of mine fed to sleep til quite old (in UK terms!). I had to stop with each when pregnant with the next one, as it became too sore. It was sad each time, but always easier than I'd anticipated. Currently pregnant with 4th and final baby, and will probably breastfeed til this one leaves home seeing as there'll be no pregnancy to motivate me to stop, and I am a weak mother who cannot say no Grin Blush

You can't be serious. It's just breastfeeding. It's not a journey.

@boredinthehouseinthehousebored
What is wrong with you ? That was mean 😔

@mamamilkmachine I’m so impressed you made it to 3 years . My 14 month old is on day 7 of a nursing strike and as I’m pregnant again I get the feeling this is her weaning or turned off by the new taste of my milk . I cried all week over this . Breastfeeding became a part of who I was and it’s incredibly special .

I stopped when ds was 4.
Currently feeding dd (6 months) and will stop when she's ready.
