Door Jumpers??

Hi.

Need some advice.

My OH just bought my 6 month old a door jumper. She can hold her head, sit up etc etc. However, just looking at it makes me nervous and not want to put her in it.

I’ve also heard things about it not being good for their legs and that they’re not entirely safe.

So, door jumpers... have you used them? Are they safe to use? Is there a recommended time for them to be in them? Just your experience please!

TIA!!

My mum had my brother & i in it from 5 months, we both walked steadily at 7.5 months so I dont think they hindered our development. My brother was in his several times a day, for about 20 mins. Was the only way she could get housework done.

@aimzxd thank you! Will give it a go - she loves trying to jump just concerned about all the safety aspects as well🤦🏼‍♀️ X

What about a jumperoo? I thought they were more study looking than door jumpers. Mine loved it. It did however take up a lot of room but we thought the benefit out weighed the loss of space!

My DSs, now 15 and 13, loved the door bouncer. They practically lived in it! Both have grown tall and straight with no adverse effects. (Although I am aware that 2 children does not a study make)

@Babyfg - I hadn’t looked at what he had bought and thought he bought my DD a jumperoo. I was very surprised by the delivery today when it was a door jumper! I will look into jumperoo’s - I was worried about the space & the price of them but from your comment they seem well worth it! Thank you x

We used a door bouncer for a couple of months when DS was about 4/5 months, he's now nearly 4.

It wasn't for long at it just let me get a couple of jobs done. He grew out of it quite quick once he could sit in a high chair instead with toys while I unloaded the dishwasher etc.

MummytoaprincessXo · 21/04/2020 15:52

@PorpentiaScamander was there a specific time they were in it?

My friend told me she used one and her DS kept bouncing into the side of the door as there was nothing stopping him!

Obviously I wouldn’t leave my DD unattended think my biggest worry is it coming off the door frame! Probably just being a worry wart!

@TobyeBella do you feel it helped with standing? This is to just get her used to the feeling of standing and pushing off the floor! She’s better standing on someone’s legs so want her to try the floor x

We had them for all the kids. They were only used every now and then and the children found them to be a great source of fun. It's like everything else. Fine in moderation.

All these things saying jumparoos, door jumpers and walkers cause developmental issues are right in a way, but they are only an issue if used all the time. If a kid is shoved into something like that all day long then of course they could have problems down the line.

bloodyhellsbellsx · 21/04/2020 15:55

We have the Minnie Mouse jumperoo and it has been invaluable, DD loves it and has spent many happy occupied hours in it over the last 6 months! Definitely best thing we bought, cost about £80 but has been worth every penny!

bloodyhellsbellsx · 21/04/2020 15:57

It didn’t effect her development either she was an early crawler at 5 months and Walker at 9 months, if anything I think it helped her development as her leg muscles are so strong off all the bouncing 🤣

PorpentiaScamander · 21/04/2020 15:58

I can't remember sorry. It was a long time ago.

TobyeBella · 21/04/2020 17:37

I couldn't say if it helped with standing as I think he pulled to stand some months after we stopped using it, I think he'd gone over the weight limit maybe.

I mainly used it to give me 5 minutes peace!

DS was prem and has physiotherapists and a paediatrician and all the professionals always told us not to use all these things for unnatural bouncing/ walking etc etc, but having proper conversations with them this advice is mainly aimed more at those people who will keep their baby in there for an hour / all day / excessive time rather than spend time with their child. It can affect muscle development. But 10/20 minutes here and there to get jobs done won’t do any harm! Like a pp said - it’s all about moderation.
