Constipated 18 month old

Hi All,

hoping someone can share some wisdom with me please. My 18 month old DD has been constipated for a number of weeks. Sorry for TMI but she does have a dirty nappy every day but they generally only have a small amount of "nuggets" in them, and are very smelly. Sometimes, she cries when passing them and more so there's lots of huffing and puffing just for a small amount. She won’t take Dulphalac etc, I've tried her occasionally on Glycerine suppositories but didn’t see any improvement. Not sure if it's now a case for the GP or would anything else work?
DD still takes 3 bottles of cow’s milk daily, she is a very fussy eater but we do our best to get the fresh homemade dinners into her, and she generally has porridge, Weetabix, sometimes rice crispies for breakfast - she's a fine size for her age, so no worries there...
Would appreciate it if anyone had some tips they could share with me. Thanks!

My son now 3 years old has always suffered with this. One thing that always helps him is some sweet potato. If u can get her to try some of that.

Speak to the dr they could do a prescription for movicol or lactulose -or can you now buy OTC? Not sure, maybe check with a pharmacy first.
DS had the same problem. I only ever used half dose of movicol though otherwise things were explosive!

Honestly, at 18 months I’d cut right back on the milk. She only needs 300 ml a day.

I’d cut out the first bottle, then 2 weeks later cut out the afternoon one.

Can you up the high water foods she has too? So try something like a small bowl of strawberries or melon alongside her breakfast and sone soup for lunch?

Brocolli and cauliflower are also high in water and she might like jelly Smile

Once you’ve cut right back in the milk, if she’s still constipated, I’d contact the Doctor then.

Prunes do an amazing job on my DS. We just get the sainsburys own baby pouch and keep a few in the cupboard. We don't need them often but he loves them and they work very well. Do they have plenty of fruit/veg and drink lots of water? Good luck x
