Whole milk or semi?

Hello all!
My toddler was 2 in January. I have googled but I’m finding so much mixed information, thought I’d ask trusty mumsnet as you’ve helped me out so much already!
Should he still be having whole milk or am I to switch him to semi skimmed? He has porridge or weetabix for breakfast every day made with about 4oz milk. He’s recently cut out his cup of milk with breakfast, he prefers to have water now instead. He won’t eat yoghurts or cheese. He has a cup of milk at bedtime with his vitamins in, probably about 6ozs. He doesn’t wake in the night for milk.
Thanks all! :)

I'd say stick with the whole milk, he'll still be growing fast so needs it, plus he's not having lots of other dairy products.

I don't think I was given semi till I was a teenager tbf.

The only difference is fat content. Both have the same amount if calcium, vitamin D, protein etc. So it doesnt matter that much. I give my DD semi skimmed because that's what I prefer and it means I don't have to buy two different milks

You can give semi from age 2 but you dont have to I did switch to semi at 2 as that's what I had in tea so it saved having different types of milk

After 2 they’re “allowed” to move to semi-skimmed, but we didn’t switch as I felt (rightly or wrongly) that full-fat has more “goodness” in it for their growing bones & teeth.

Dentist told me to get whole milk as it was healthier.

Stick with whole milk. Full fat will naturally have more omega 3 and Vit D as it's fat soluble (unless vit D has been added to the semi skimmed milk) and also keeps you "full" longer.

My dietitian from the hospital recommends full fat as it also helps the absorption of some vits.

Plus it's yummy :)

Semi skimmed has less fat so has slightly less fat soluble vitamins (A and D). It has slightly more calcium. It's really up to your preference

The only difference is the fat content, it’s the same calcium in both milks. If he has a good diet and eats well then the advice I got from the health visitor was to switch to semi skimmed but if he needs the fat because he doesn’t eat well then stick with whole milk.

I’ll stick to whole milk as he’s going through a fussy eating stage!
Thank you all so much for your help and guidance, I knew I could trust you all to give a simple and uncomplicated answer!

I gave dd whole milk until she was 5, she was always very slim and started to look skinny very quickly if her calories dropped, for example when she was ill or it was warm and she lost her appetite. Ds I swapped to semi at 3, he was always a chunkier build and it meant everyone was drinking the same milk again!
