Should I have concerns about baby rolling

My baby is 7 months and 3 months ago rolled from front to back. He did it a handful of times only front to back and hasn’t done so since. He has never rolled back to front. He seems to be developing fine in other ways such as being able to sit unaided, puts pressure on his feet when we hold him standing and looks like he is trying to crawl during tummy time (arms are in position and he tries to move his legs but can’t quite coordinate). I was confident it was fine as he seems ok in every other way but I’m now worrying he seems to have missed a pretty big step. I know babies develop at different rates but I thought he would have tried again in the last 3 months Confused

My baby is 7 months and only rolled front to back about a month ago, he has only done it a few times, he's not really trying to crawl yet either Blush
But I'm not worried, he'll get there when he's ready as will your baby, hope this makes you feel a bit better that he is more advanced than others still Smile

Mine completely skipped this stage! I know a few others that did to. They'll do things when they are ready

I have 4 children, school age now. Only 1 of them ever did the rolling thing. The others either did it once, literally or never to my knowledge. So based on my own anecdotal evidence and the fact they are now hulking teens that play sports and leap around I'd say its not an issue in the absence of any other issues.

My DS only really started rolling back to front since lockdown. He’s 9 months now but would have been 8 I suppose. He still can’t roll front to back but he has sat really well since 5 months, he can’t crawl but can move in a circle around a fixed point and Is getting in crawling position. He can get from sitting to crawling position and stand with minimal support. Health visitor phoned yesterday to see how we were doing and she wasn’t worried at all. They’re all just different.,

My friend’s DD is the exact same age and DA could sit well before her but she could crawl well before him. I think they’re all just different.

Mine wouldn't until 18 months. HV was stressing a bit, but I knew my child. She didn't do anything she didn't fancy doing.

EatCakeBeMerry · 18/04/2020 10:33

Thank you! It’s very reassuring to hear as I was worried it might hinder him going from lying down to sitting or to crawling. I didn’t want to call the HV as I am sure they must be stretched with everything going on.

Mine never rolled, didn’t do tummy time (reflux so puked instantly and choked), didn’t crawl, sat unaided at 5 months then was like an angry bear for a further 5 months until she cruised, then walked confidently at 12 months.

I stressed about it loads, but at 16 months she’s very active and normal for her age. I know nothing will stop you wondering about it, but honestly they all catch up.

My second didn't roll till the day after her first birthday. Eventually walked at 21 months. I wouldn't worry about it at this stage.

Apparently rolling and then stopping is ok, our boy rolled back to front quite early, he was doing it all the time for about a week at maybe 4 months, then he just didn't bother, maybe didn't like it. Now he's 6 months he has started again.
We did a lot of googling etc when he stopped as we were concerned but it's apparently very normal and some babies just skip some stages. As long as they are happy and don't seem to have any weakness on one side there's a wide variation in ability.
It's a shame all the child health clinic are cancelled at the moment because they could always explain this kind of thing to us.

My DS was similar, he only rolled from front to back a few times. I'd put him on the floor on his back after a nappy change and come back after washing my hands to find him on his tummy and rather upset! He did it for a couple of weeks and then stopped, he never did that rolling across the floor thing that I saw other babies doing, and I don't think he ever went from front to back.

He's now 21 months, never stops running around, and can roll and contort himself into any position he fancies. I guess some babies just aren't that into rolling.

Mine rolled instead of crawling, non-stop until she got up and walked, then she started crawling - hilarious!

They're all so different, don't sweat it.

Blondefancy · 20/04/2020 06:50

DD1 (now 3) hated tummy time as had reflux so we did it sparingly. She rolled over at 4 months (back to front) never the other way and only did this maybe 3 times. She sat unaided at 5 months and was happily like that until the day before her first birthday where she then decided to bottom shuffle around Grin Never crawled. Infact I remember the day when she discovered crawling, it was half a year after she learnt how to walk Hmm

katy80 · 20/04/2020 07:04

DD hated tummy time too, and didn't roll (either way) until about 3 weeks after she started crawling at 9 months. She instead learnt to push her self up to sitting from laying on her tummy if she'd been crawling. She sat independently at 5 months, walked at 15 months. Very stubborn child!
