Letting baby lick food

My baby is 4 months this Sunday and not at all ready to start weaning.

But is it ok to allow her to lick something? I can't see how this would be bad, she wouldn't be swallowing anything, just a taster. I wouldn't give say chocolate that could melt on the tongue (also probably not the first food I'd want to introduce her to... and the Chocolate is MINE) but say an apple or a banana? Just to give her the idea of taste beyond her milk.

Would this would have any positive or negative effect?

Having weaned one early in the bad old days and done BLW with one little spoon refuser are 6 months, I'd just leave it.

I can't see any benefit to letting them like food, they don't miss the taste of something they've never had and milk is really all they need.

No need at all.

She'll have a life of food. Don't rush it.

Not sure what would be the point? At that young they get enough sensory stimulation from interacting with you without weaning early!
