Not really a TAAT but a couple of threads have made me wonder about children's independence post lock down. It seems to me that parents today generally are quite over protective already and that quite often there's little appetite for encouraging children to be independent. In a post-lockdown world, is this going to be worse? Are parents even less likely to let their kids out and about because they'll worry about social distancing obedience etc?
Disclaimer: it's a constant frustration to me that we don't encourage more freedom and independence for children. I understand the instinct - I constantly have to stop myself from the knee jerk "no" when DS wants to do something, but I do spend a lot of time trying to facilitate better independence and competence. I think it's useful. And in the case of one family I know, saved the life of their younger daughter when the older boy, who was only 7 at the time, called 999 when she was injured.
