8 week jabs during coronavirus

Anyone had their baby vaccinated as normal during the current pandemic? Wasn’t sure if they would try to delay it or wouldn’t see baby. Of course I am ** myself about taking her but wouldn’t not get her jabs done. She’s 6 weeks atm so a couple of weeks yet, it’s just something that is on my mind. Thanks!

Please get your child vaccinated. I’m in Scotland and there’s a lots of info on the local NHS Facebook page that vaccines are going ahead, but they may be special arrangements in place. At my pals boys 13 months ones only one parent was allowed in and had to wear a face mask.

Unfortunately, ‘other viruses are still available’ - and for example measles is more contagious that cooronavirus I believe - so please protect your child. It’s horrible to see them be jabbed but it’s for a good reason

I think jabs are running as normal and you absolutely shouldn’t delay them. Well done for getting them!

Yup, my son had his one year ones last week. They only allowed one person in the waiting room at a time, someone came to get us when they were ready and the nurse was wearing a mask, gloves and apron.

yadayadayesokay · 15/04/2020 19:55

I asked this a while back as I wasn’t sure either, but yes they are being treated as priority. My baby had hers last week and at my GP they had special arrangements such as waiting in your car until they phone you to come in etc.

My baby is due his 8 weeks next Wednesday and I'm papping myself. You must get them done. X

DD had her MMR a couple of weeks ago and we were taken in a side door so bypassed the waiting room and only saw the nurse. Immunisations are super important, perhaps even more so than usual right now. Don't worry, I felt like we basically encountered zero risk.

Jellycatfox · 15/04/2020 19:59

Yes we got our vaccines done

yelyahyoung · 15/04/2020 20:11

Ok great thanks everyone Smile
And for the couple of people that are urging me to make sure I get my child vaccinated...I never said I wasn’t lol. I was simply asking if they are still doing them as normal and what to expect, I would never not get my baby vaccinated as it would put her in even more danger

I had my boys done 2 weeks ago at 8 weeks Smile it’s awful, but he was absolutely fine, only the tiniest cry and I was far more upset than he was! No lasting effects and he’s due his 12 week ones so soon Blush poor baby. But I’m trying to remember that he was not bothered, it was me that was! Honestly, be brave and you will both be fine Flowers

Sorry, should say the nurse was fab, she was super happy I had him just in a nappy waist down and a nice blanket wrapped around his legs for the walk/car seat. So no trauma doing clothes up over the injection sites. He was so easily distracted from the pain by a lovely kiss and a jiggle, they’re so resilient.

They are continuing as a priority. Our Go was amazing. Quick 6 week check during the appointment in addition to a phone review (at my request to limit time in surgery)

We waited outside until they called us to come in. Saw only the nurse and GP in a 'cold' (safe) room they are using just for baby checks. PPE worn.

Very pleased with how they went. Please don't avoid them x

PeacefulInTheDeep · 15/04/2020 21:24

My DD had her 8 week vaccinations last week. We had to wait outside the building until called in, and couldn't take the pram in. The nurse wore a mask and gloves.

Laylor · 15/04/2020 21:53

@yelyahyoung apologies that was me. Confused didn't mean for it to come across that way. I feel your pain I'm extremely nervous too. Good luck x

snowybean · 15/04/2020 22:47

My GP are doing a special baby clinic once a week where one parent + child(ren?) are allowed in at any one time in order to get their jabs. I had to wait outside until they were ready.

Glad to see most people are still getting them done. This came up on my NCT WhatsApp and most people were of the opinion that they would wait until ‘this is over’ at the child is unlikely to catch anything while alone at home anyway. Not helped but the fact some local surgeries are refusing to do 1 year vaccinations atm - not sure if it’s staff shortage or what. My thoughts were, yes, they are unlikely to catch anything during lockdown but how easy will it be to get an appointment in a few months time, when there’s a huge backlog to deal with? Most babies are not particularly at risk from CV, they are from meningitis, measles etc.

We were told to wait in the car, phoned when it was time to go in, literally saw 2 nurses, no other drs or patients at all. I believe for smaller babies the nurse was actually going out in to the car to do the jabs there rather than have them come in to the surgery.
