At 22 months quite a few children can only speak a few words. Have a look at the ICan website as it gives an indication of what he should be doing and tips on how to get him to talk.

If he's still not talking at 2 you can usually self-refer for a hearing test and speech therapy (SLT). It's probably also worth doing the m-chat test too, just to rule out ASD.

As for the sleep, what do you do now? Would you be happy going straight for CIO or do you think more gentle methods might suit you better?

Thanks so much I was thinking the cio method do I just leave him to cry ? Sorry, but you might have to ask someone else for advice on leaving them to cry. I've never been very good at it Smile

DS is two at the weekend and he barely talks. Not worried cuz you can see he understands as he can easily follow instructions. It'll come 😊 just keep talking around him.

When he cries is it a proper cry or just a whingey sort of cry? I ignore the 'I want attention' whingey crying and he'll go back to sleep on his own but if he seems genuinely upset by something I'll always go give him a cuddle and see if he's okay

Not talking - perfectly normal. I had concerns about my DD at the same age but it almost started over night once she turned 2 - hence why they won’t do any form of investigation until over the age of 2. That short amount of time seems to make a big difference!

Waking in the night & leaving to cry is completely down to personal preference. I’ve never been able to do it, DD still wakes a lot in the night & gets in my bed most nights so I certainly haven’t cracked that one.
