How much breastmilk is beneficial?

Just that, how much does a baby need for it to be beneficial to them? 5oz? 20oz?

Been exclusively pumping for 6 months for DD, (as she wouldn’t latch) and have found it a real struggle. I always just wanted to get to the 6 month mark. I had started winding down with the pumping sessions, going from 8 per day, now down to 2. The 2 sessions only produce about 6oz of milk, so she’s just getting one bottle a day of breastmilk now (and formula the rest of the time).

I’m only keeping it up due to coronavirus, with the logic that if we get it in our household, I’ll be able to pass on antibodies to her via the breastmilk and help her fight it. However is it pointless only giving her the 6oz? Would she need more for it to actually benefit her? Heath visitor too busy to help at the mo. Thanks for your thoughts.

I think one bottle is beneficial, how do you feel about carrying on with pumping until the Pandemic is over?

Thanks for your reply. I can handle pumping only once or twice a day for the foreseeable future - but I wouldn’t do it if there was little benefit. I will probably carry on for a couple more months, it depends how long all this lasts (& the older she gets, hopefully the stronger her own immune system will be)

Every drop.

Big hats off to keep up pumping this long. I barely could get a drop shortly after feeding was established.

As far as I understand every oz is beneficial as they will have the antibodies etc you mention and there is no cutoff point when giving a smaller amount stops the benefit. Well done for expressing for this long

Great thanks for confirming!
