What time do yours go to bed?

Do you mean normally or when there's no school?

Maryann1975 · 13/04/2020 20:30

At the moment? 9 year old went to bed at 9.30 last night (lights straight out and no reading) and she has just been sent to brush her teeth now, but will be allowed to read for a bit as it’s early.

Two months ago, lights were out by 8pm.

We are enjoying more relaxed evenings and not being disturbed so early in the mornings.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 13/04/2020 20:46

School time, upstairs at 8, lights off by 8.30. Currently running about 30 mins later. I have to drag them out of bed at 7.20 for school, these days they are up no later than 7 Hmm

9 year old goes up at 8pm, lights off at 8.30pm.

Wakes just after 5am. Has never, ever slept past 5.45am in his life.

TheLongDarkBreakfastTime · 13/04/2020 20:49

8.00 lights off on a school night, reading in bed before that unless she has a club or something which ends late. 8.30 when it’s not a school night. Still keeping to that now, I need the time without kids, and reading Ian good for them!

MilkNoSugars · 13/04/2020 20:52

Normally my 8 year old would go to bed at 8pm, I'd read him a story and he'd be asleep by 8.30 latest.

Since we've been on lockdown he's been staying up with his big brother till 9.30ish and sleeping in late- which suits us all fine!

perniciousdot · 13/04/2020 20:53

8yo - 8pm

9yo - 8:30pm

10yo - 9pm

KittenVsBox · 13/04/2020 20:53

9 at the end of the month.
Bed at 8, lights out 8.30.
Usually up by 6.30. We are sticking with it as DH is still working and getting up at that time anyway (even tho his commute is currently 5 metres from bed to laptop!)

KindKylie · 13/04/2020 20:53

My 8yr old is in bed by 8 but we have stories and audio books etc. She was out like a light before 8 today!

Other nights she is still awake past 9 but then she sleeps in a bit in the morning.

My 10 yr old however, never asleep before 9.30pm and always awake by 7am..

Pollyputthepizzaon · 13/04/2020 20:54

My son is 8 next month. Lights out 8pm and gets up at 7am

Ciwirocks · 13/04/2020 20:55

8 year old 8pm if in school, more relaxed since they have been off and has the odd half 8/ 9 bedtime but doesn’t cope with that for more than a night or 2

cliffdiver · 13/04/2020 20:58

DD1 is 8 and goes to bed 6.45 / 7pm.

She reads in bed for up to 15 minutes.

She seems to need 12 hours, as I still have to wake her at 7am when at school for breakfast club, so won't move it later during the week.

IamAporcupine · 13/04/2020 21:01

Far too late at the moment
Usually, 9pm
Now 10:30pm

He is 8yo

cliffdiver · 13/04/2020 21:05

For context, DH an I go to bed 8.30 - 9pm BlushGrin

peajotter · 13/04/2020 21:11

9:30pm Even on school nights.

But we don’t wake up until 7:30 at the earliest. NHS recommend an average of 10 hours for 9yo, although it depends on the child of course.

Anxiouslockdownmum · 13/04/2020 22:45

Thanks for the replies!

I can see I’m probably putting mine to bed far too early (and for purely selfish reasons I must admit I need PEACE for a good few hours in the evenings). She went up at 7 tonight.

Friends were still trying to video chat well after my DD was in bed tonight and it made me think maybe I’m putting her to bed too early.

She’s such an early riser though regardless of when she goes to bed I may need to try and strike some sort of deal that if she stays up later she must stay in her room later in the mornings even just reading quietly.

fartyface · 13/04/2020 22:48

7pm here too, sometimes let her read for 10 or so mins extra. Up at 7ish

Ciwirocks · 13/04/2020 22:50

My ds is also an early riser. He wears a watch now though and knows he isn’t to disturb anyone else until 7am. He reads in his room before then and will get up between 6 and half past no matter what time he goes to bed!

GetRid · 13/04/2020 22:53

School night = between 7.30-8.30

Covid era = 9-9.30

She's not getting enough exercise in the daytime so just isn't tired!

Bicnod · 13/04/2020 22:53

7.30pm here for my 8 year old DS2. DS1 was more like 8pm bedtime at that age so it does depend on the child I think and how much sleep they need/whether they will sleep in.

SheldonSaysSo1 · 13/04/2020 22:56

I'd say if she is an early riser maybe go for 7.30? And then one night a week she can stay up until 8.15? That gives you a bit more of a balance and if that isn't enough offer 15 - 30 mins of quiet reading in bed after that time.

PapsofJura · 13/04/2020 22:58

Usually 9 as they have activities during the week which go on till 8.30. Wakes up between 7 to 7.30am.

User202004 · 13/04/2020 23:04

8 on a school night (including "home school" for my sanity!) 9 weekends and holidays.

RedSoloCup · 13/04/2020 23:24

My 9yo goes at 10 and then reads !!

She's youngest with two much older siblings though and I'm sure they went earlier at her age.

She's always full of energy and never tired though so 🤷‍♀️

snowybean · 13/04/2020 23:27

When I was eight years old I used to go to my bedroom at 7pm but actually sleep by 10:30/11pm. I remember my dad coming in at 12:30am once and ordering me to go to sleep. I just wanted to draw!
