Cleaning baby's first tooth?

My ds (7 months) has his first tooth come through now so I know I need to start cleaning it, probably a silly question but how do you do it?
He doesn't like if I try and put the baby toothbrush in his mouth so I have a little rubber one he can chew on like a teether but is that enough?
Do I need to be using toothpaste or not as he won't be able to spot it out?

No real experience yet as I'm waiting for my own 7 month old to cut a tooth. But from what I've read you use the smallest amount of baby toothpaste (literally described as a smear), rub it onto whatever teeth they have, and leave it. Washing it out will remove the fluoride, defeating the point of using the toothpaste in the first place.

Hope it goes well for you. And someone with actual experience comes along to correct me if I'm wrong.

Baby toothpaste is fine, you only use a tiny bit anyway and because of all the dribble you'll find they spit most of it out anyway
They will get used to the baby toothbrush after a while, my son didn't like his at first either, but you can use a small clean cloth to begin with also if that's easier :)

Tiny bit of toothpaste on the brush and a quick rub round the tooth. They get used to it and tbh you're probably going to have plenty of teeth cleaning battles to come so best to start as you mean to go on!

Thanks guys ill use a tiny but of toothpaste then I do have some baby toothpaste in the cupboard so thats reassuring that I can use it. Will have to be a bit more forceful to get that tooth clean!
