Wet nappy hell

All advice welcome please

I have a 10 week old who goes to bed at 8:00pm and doesn’t wake up until 7:00am. ( I’m living the dream right now)

However every morning when we pick her up she seems to of soaked through her nappy, all over her babygrow & cot!

I was told to change her before I go to bed ( great advice) however my baby is a front sleeper, soon as she’s placed onto her back she wakes up right away and then we’re faced with an aggy baby ( she loves her sleep ) it then takes a while to get her back to sleep. So we’ve ruled that one out.

I’ve heard of putting babies in larger nappy’s to sleep? Haven’t tried this yet ? Unsure if it’ll work?

I’d be grateful for any advice please Hmm

have you tried going up a size in nappy ? The wet through thing for us was always a sign that he needed to go up a size

SomeoneElseEntirelyNow · 12/04/2020 07:51

Have you tried going up a size and using a wrap?

Also, please think twice about putting your baby down on her front to sleep, this is against all medical advice and dramatically increases the risk of SIDS.

Jigglyjugs · 12/04/2020 07:51

We had this with our son, no matter if he was changed when we got into bed a few hours after he had gone down and was solved by going up a size. The nappies with a + symbol are apparently more absorbent and seem to be holding up at the moment.

My baby was a front sleeper as soon as he could turn himself over and we found that the pull-up style nappies had more absorbency at the front so he wears those at night.

eatanazurecrayon · 12/04/2020 07:59

Maybe try a reusable just for bedtime? I know it's a pain but the totsbots bamboozle let you add additional 'boosters' for heavy wetters and keep them dry for 12+ hours with no leaks! Then just pop in the wash. There's a trial kit just now for £25 that includes one if you wanted to try it out plus I think 2 more kinds. I've just bought it and am excited to try it out.

Size up nappies and double up. Premium brand preferably such as pampers super dry xx

HiDuggee · 12/04/2020 08:15

Try the next size up. Also always put baby to sleep on their back, have a read on lullaby trust they have really helpful advice 🙂 congratulations on having a good sleeper!

moomoobaabaa · 12/04/2020 08:16

Change her on her front then.

Pjs instead of a baby grow.

Slip the bottoms down, hand under her to undo nappy, or use nappy pants that rip at the side.
Gently put new one of and pull PJs up all with her on her front

SpudsAreLife84 · 12/04/2020 08:17

The + nappies are extra absorbant so I'd get Pampers baby dry in usual size but the + so 2+ instead of 2 for example.

bobstersmum · 12/04/2020 08:21

Pampers are the only nappies I ever trusted for night time.
However definitely think twice about putting baby down on front. It's OK once they can turn onto front themselves as obviously you can't stop that, but at 10 weeks I'd battle through putting them on back for now. Good luck.

OutComeTheWolves · 12/04/2020 08:32

I had this for a while with mine so I doubled up and put a pull up on top of the nappy. It worked quite well.

Flippyflo · 12/04/2020 08:43

Thank you so much everyone- I’ll try going up a size we’ve only just put her into size 2 so will give size 3 ago.

Re front sleeping- she was able to lift and turn her head from around two weeks old, she’s a very strong baby, we have the angel care baby sensor mat. She’s happy on her front and will only sleep that way even with naps ! Smile

@eatanazurecrayon - what a good suggestion, I never even thought of this ! Thank you I’ll look into it now.

@moomoobaabaa- ahh again thank you ! I’m gonna give this one ago too

@Jigglyjugs - I don’t think I’ve ever noticed the plus symbol. I’ll check the packs now - I feel terrible when she’s soaked through !

Thanks everyone for your advice really helpful x

Bundler (nighty with elastic at bottom) you can just about change her without waking her.

But I'd agree with what people say about front sleeping. Maybe let her go off like that while you sit with her, then flip her onto her back once you're sure she's fully asleep.

The 4 month regression might make things less peachy anyhow!

bobstersmum · 12/04/2020 08:45

Not saying she's not happy on front, but it's strongly advised not to place a baby on front to sleep.

SpudsAreLife84 · 12/04/2020 09:33

OP I'm sorry but you cannot rely on an angelcare monitor system for reasurance- my BIL is a paeds consultant and said that if it is SIDS, by the time the alarm sounds it is already too late so safe sleeping guidelines are absolutely vital! Angelcare is much more effective for other reasons, such as if a child has CP and is prone to stopping breathing - very different to SIDS which is very sudden death and unlikely to be resuscitated. I really wish they made this more clear when selling this stuff

PrimeraVez · 12/04/2020 10:01

Please don’t put your baby to sleep on her front. I know that’s not what you’re asking about and I know that you know your baby best, but please please rethink this.

Abouttimemum · 12/04/2020 10:13

NOTHING ever worked for our boy and I was at the end of my tether (he’d always wake up drenched after 11/12 hours - never bothered him but bothered me!)
We tried absolutely everything. Then DH double nappied him one night, put some small holes in the bottom nappy to relieve the pressure and then put a nappy pant over the top of it. He hasn’t leaked at all since. His nappies are HUGE in the morning. He’s 1 now.

Flippyflo · 12/04/2020 10:19

Thank you for your feedback with the sleeping on the front. I can appreciate everyone’s feed back and concerns.

Granted this isn’t what I asked advice for. However I am aware of all the guidelines and it’s not something we decided to do lightly. I’m sure you can all empathise with being sleeping deprived for a number of weeks, she sleeps fine on her front. She able to hold her head for a very long time, and can also roll from her back to her side which she has done so for a number of weeks.

This was the last resort. Shes happy and I’m happy.

Thanks again for the nappy advice !

@Abouttimemum - This is the thing it really bothers me !

You’re the second to say double up of nappy’s! Thank you l

We have the same issues with 7 month old ds

The only thing the works is pampers + in the next size up. Even then i am not getting 12 hours though.
