Is 9.30am too late for a 4 month old to sleep in?

My 4 month old has got into the habit of not going down for sleep until 9pm-9.30pm, usually having a feed to drop off. He gets up around 4am for a feed after that and then again around 6.30 then sleeps in til 9am-9.30am. Is this too late for a baby that age to sleep in, or is it okay to continue with this? Because hes getting the sleep he needs I'm reluctant to try and force his bed time forward,as I'm not sure if it would create more problems than it would solve?

If you're happy with it and don't need him up it's fine, I for one am very jealous.

Abbccc · 11/04/2020 17:10

That's fine! No need to change a sleeping pattern that works well for everyone. He's getting a 12 hour night, ideal.

I think that sounds great for 4 months old. I wouldn't worry about it, personally. You might find he naturally wants to go to bed earlier and wakes up earlier as time goes on.

Enjoy while you can.

No need to mess with the routine if it works for you Flowers

DeadbeatDescendant · 11/04/2020 17:12

Sounds brilliant. That was my DD’s pattern - as I’m not a morning person I never attempted to change it!

SlipperyNipples · 11/04/2020 17:28

Sounds heavenly, even when my baby sleeps until 6.30am my older twins wake up at 5 Angry

Marlena1 · 11/04/2020 17:32

Good job OP!!! Don't change it. I worried about this on DD1 but this wonderfulness ended with DD2Sad

RhymingRabbit3 · 11/04/2020 17:33

4 month olds just do what they want Grin if it suits you then just keep it this way, it will probably change soon anyway.

Crystal87 · 11/04/2020 17:33

I think it's a bit late to be honest but I wouldn't stress about it. Personally I liked mine up earlier as by the time they're fed and dressed it's getting on for midday. Mine normally had a mid morning nap after breakfast and school run. Babies' sleep patterns can change quite frequently though so soon you could have a different sleep pattern so if it's working for you I wouldn't rush into changing it.

My dd is the same age and does 11pm til 10am. She just will not go to sleep any earlier, have tried waking her consistently at 8am to do the school run and she was just so ratty through lack of sleep, but wouldn't give in any earlier

cocomelon23 · 11/04/2020 17:39

I'd want her going to bed earlier if it were me. I'd need to have an evening to myself. I also like to be up early in the morning so would feel like I've lost most of the morning getting up at 9.30am. If it works for you then that's all that matters.

Lalapurple · 11/04/2020 17:40

Sounds good! Our pattern was similar except with lots more feeds during the night!

CatSmize · 11/04/2020 17:42

If you are on maternity leave and don't need to be out the house for any reason it sounds absolutely perfect. My DS used to get up with me at around 11am at that age (I'm a night owl!) and now, at 6 months, he naturally wakes up at around 8am. We put him to bed when he's tired, which is around the same time every night, and don't feel the need to have a strict bedtime.
