Sit and Play Activity Nests any good?

My daughter was recently given a sit and Play Activity nest. She's 5 months and can tripod sit and likes to sit up if she's my knee and I'm holding her hand, but she can't actually sit independently yet.

Sometimes I let her sit for a few minutes supported by a breastfeeding pillow and she enjoys reaching for things and playing, so I thought she'd enjoy the activity nest. She hates it! It doesn't support her enough to help her sit right now, but I don't see the point in it if it can't be used until she is sitting independently. Surely at that stage she'd be just as happy with a few pillows around her in case of wobbles?

Has anyone tried them and found them useful? It was a gift from my mil, and I don't want to offend her by not using it, but I also don't want more stuff taking up space if it's going to be useless!

I was given one from my mother in law too and have found it useful even though I can leave my ds sitting independently with cushions around him incase he falls. Its just nice having somewhere else to plonk him and I feel more confident leaving him on his own in it if I need to make lunch / cup of tea or go to the loo Smile
I've also popped him in it in my kitchen while I'm washing up and feel he is safer than sitting straight on the tiled floor.
