Newborn soft carriers: your experience?

Hi!
Pregnant with 3rd Grin

I already have a wrap. It's lovely but I'm thinking it'll be too much work to manage with the other kids as well, especially with school drops and stuff (not a problem before). I need something that just clips easily. Also it'll be my first baby that is born in the beginning of the bad weather.... I hate winter clothes, so bulky.

I already have a structured carrier as well! The angel. It's brilliant! Love it! But it's only for when the baby starts sitting unaided. I need something for before.

Do you have any experience with something that buckles easily, supportive for the baby.... i was looking at the ergobaby (it seemed like the baby head flops out?...) and the babybjorn (is it complicated?). Are there other good options that I haven't come across yet?

Thank you!!! Smile

Baby K'tan.

It's a wrap, that's pre wrapped so you just pop it over your head like a normal carrier.

I was obsessed with mine, as was DS

(Also bought the ergo baby and Bjorn and couldn't get on with either, despite the rave reviews)

I've come to the conclusion I don't like buckles!

I used a baby bjorn for my dd from around 5 weeks until she was around 18 months. It has different settings for newborn and then older, to do with hip support. This time I'm getting a close caboo for around the house as the buckles on the baby bjorn were great for out and about but not for lounging.

I had an Ergobaby and I loved it. You can get an insert for when they're newborn which pushes them up and supports their head. There's also a hood that clips up that can help support their head when too big for the insert.

I tried a a wrap and couldn't get on with it all, far too much of a faff, the Ergobaby I just buckled and went on my way!

I have a baby Bjorn and really like it. Super convenient for popping baby into quickly to go for a walk or pop in to the shops without having to take out the pram. Pregnant with my second baby and will use again this time.

Thank you @Pentium85 I totally jumped over that one :)
Thanks for your input that buckles may not be ideal

We had the ergo baby adapt and used it from newborn. Loved it.

LoisLittsLover · 07/04/2020 20:14

Close caboo is good because you can wear it all day and just slip them in. I have also used a tula which is a buckle carrier and has tge adjustable sizes but not sure it's snuggly enough for a tiny baby, I used from about 14 weeks

FraterculaArctica · 07/04/2020 20:15

Close Caboo? Can pop baby in and out from newborn.

user1493413286 · 07/04/2020 20:15

I have a close caboo; it’s like a wrap that’s already wrapped so no messing about. Takes about 30 seconds to get baby in and probably took about 2 practices to learn how to do it

minipie · 07/04/2020 20:18

Beco Gemini - fab. Similar to Ergo but better for petite mums. Beco make quite a few models.

Duckchick · 07/04/2020 20:21

I have a caboo DX plus which is a cross between a stretchy and a buckle. The inner part is entirely stretchy fabric, like a pre tied wrap (like on the close caboo). The outer layer is a more rigid foam that clips on, with a height adjustable head support.

I've got on really well with it across 2 babies. The inner layer you can wear and just slip a baby into it, and it's lovely and snuggly like a wrap. The outer layer is supportive and height adjusts so stops their heads flopping when you lean forwards.

It's very quick to get a baby into so I was still using it until schools closed 2 weeks ago for school drop off and pick up. DS is now 8.5 months. As he's got heavier, I otherwise now prefer a carrier with a structured waist band for longer carries (I have a Manduca), the Caboo doesn't distribute the weight as well but it's brilliant for when they are smaller.

Newcornishmama · 07/04/2020 20:21

Ergo embrace. Maybe head to your local sling library to try before you buy.

Ribeebie · 07/04/2020 20:21

I have a baby Bjorn air and it's fab. Used since DS was 4 weeks and still going strong at 18m. Would definitely recommend. Easy to use and pop him in and out etc but also comfy and baby well supported.

Ladyglitterfairydust · 07/04/2020 20:23

I had a manduca which can be used from very young and it was great. Really comfortable to wear. I used it doing a 6 mile walk in the Lake District when dd was 7 months old and could easily have walked much further.

bakingdemon · 07/04/2020 20:28

We had the ergo baby and loved it - you set it so it supports their head when they're tiny. We used it til he was 13 months or so (facing out by then) and I always found it really comfortable

spicelader · 07/04/2020 20:32

I have a Boba X and love it. Very easy to adjust, comfortable and no inserts needed for newborns.

ElfAndSafety1 · 07/04/2020 20:32

Also used the ergo baby from newborn, loved it then, still use it and love it now at nearly 16 months

PeacefulInTheDeep · 08/04/2020 13:46

I have a Connecta and love it. Three buckles so easy to put on and adjust. Suitable from newborn to something like 25kg. We're using it a lot at the moment for 8 week old DD, and were using it as a front carry for DS until about 18 months. He's too heavy for a front carry now (for me anyway) but I've been meaning to try out a back carry.

HarrietM87 · 08/04/2020 19:39

Love the ergobaby omni 360 - used it constantly for the first year with my son. For the first 6 months didn’t even bother with the pram. We used it when out and about mainly - I just held him when we were inside (Velcro baby!).

I’m pregnant again and think I might get a close caboo or similar to wear indoors so I can be hands free and still deal with my toddler. The ergo is amazing but quite substantial - I like the thought of being to pop the baby in and out of a stretchy soft one.

Bol87 · 08/04/2020 22:23

Mamaruga Zensling, a real delight of a soft carrier. Has buckles but the material it’s made from is more like a sling. So it’s not bulky like the ergo (which we also have), easy to put on yourself & just really comfy! Have a quick look on YouTube for tutorials of different slings, that’ll give you some idea of how they all work!
