What to pay childminder when setting is closed?

My CM is closed due to coronavirus and is not providing care for anyone including key worker children. She is usually full to capacity every day based on the legal ratios. She gets funding for the 30 hours for 3 and 4 year olds, has younger kids all day and a lot before and after school too. She has a husband in work in a profession.

She has my youngest 25 hrs a week while I work, term time only. Youngest starts school FT in Sept and would be leaving her care as I want all my kids in the same before and after school setting from September and she has no space for my other child as is she is fully booked.

She is asking for no fees currently as per our contract. Should I offer to pay a percentage to her now she is closed, taking account of our term time only arrangement, and notice period which means that in normal times we would be ending our contract from mid July anyway?
I don't know what to do. My husband is still working as normal and I have been furloughed so am getting 80%. My understanding is that childminders can apply for business interruption grants like other self employed and will be paid 80% of profits from June backdated to March. My childminder has been child minding for years ap will qualify for the 80% scheme. We usually pay her with childcare vouchers. Will anything we pay her now affect what she could claim from Gov and potentially make her worse off in the long run?

As far as I know, everyone is a bit weary about the taxable grant until the requirements for applying are clear.

You could discuss it with her and see what her stance is as she’s probably relying on parents to offer and help her out as there’s no help until at least June.

I understand there's a potential gap in income but what is paid in June will be backdated to March so will childminders potentially be better off than usual if all their families pay even half in the meantime?

As far as I know childminders can’t apply for the business interruption grants as their micro businesses don’t qualify for the requirements.

They can apply for the self employment 80% of income for three months based on their last three years tax returns.

Or would being paid for care not being provided between now and June mean you're not eligible for Gov help schemes?

Not necessarily as until they receive the grant and are aware of the requirements no one knows.

If parents want to pay half it’s because they have a good relationship and don’t want their childminder out of business/financial difficulty and to be honest it sounds as though you might begrudge it so best not to offer anything if you are worried she’ll benefit from this situation.

Possibly, I’m sure the government will want bank statements and to know what was earned from any key workers/funded places.

Childminders will also be taxed the same as employed people from now on, despite not getting sick pay or annual leave or any employment perks due to having received this help.

I don't follow your point about tax. What has changed in that respect please?

The funded places are continuing to be paid unless the child is of a keyworker and been moved to another setting.

No one really knows the details of the 80% claim back . I personally am still open working extra hours with key children to keep them in one setting.

However for some depending on funding/ amount of key children are not getting any income and may not get any income till gone June.
