Reusable nappies - do I need to change if baby has pooped?

Hi guys first night using reusable nappies.

Just been up to check on baby who is sleeping soundly and I smell that smell.

What should i do? Do I need to change him? I know they are designed so babies sleep through if they have peed but what about poop? Will he wake on his own? Or can I just leave him?

Change to avoid a sore bottom.

Crackerofdoom · 04/04/2020 21:39

I would never wake a sleeping baby for any reason except the house being on fire Blush

Poo in a washable is no different to poo in a disposable so do what you would normally do.

Yes change. Leaving will result in a v sore bottom regardless of the nappy type. If you're gentle, you can do it without waking the baby. You'll be a pro at it in no time Wink

I would change if he had pooed

Sheepareawesome · 04/04/2020 21:41

I would wake for a poo yes otherwise the skin could get sore.

Bobbiepin · 04/04/2020 21:41

Change for poo, no matter what type of nappy.

ZoeandChandon · 04/04/2020 21:41

My dc are teenagers now, but I remember having the same dilemma one night. I got my dh to hold the torch for me and I changed the nappy in the cot with minimal disruption!

Skeeter2020 · 04/04/2020 21:42

Yes you always change for a poo, always

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/04/2020 21:42

Definitely change.

Fishbaby · 05/04/2020 00:18

Would you want to be sleeping in your own muck? Saying they I'm sure my baby enjoys a nice we warm bum from having done a nice fresh poo soooo... She certainly doesn't seem to care. Obviously i always change her.

Fortunately though she only poops during feeds!

ArgyllFTM · 05/04/2020 00:23

Always change! I missed one the other week, it can’t have been there more than two hours, and when I went to wipe her bum it was so raw it bled. The enzymes in the poo break down the skin, and poo + stale wee essentially causes chemical burns.

Lindy2 · 05/04/2020 00:26

Try and change the nappy as quietly and with as little disturbance as possible. It needs changing but if you're very very lucky, baby might not wake too much.

stophuggingme · 05/04/2020 00:33

Of course you change the nappy. Disposable or reusable.

Cherry85 · 05/04/2020 13:05

Thank you.... went and checked and turned out it was just a big fart 🙈🙈

I assume he would cry as he normally would through the night if he had though?

Not always. Sometimes they will be unaware. How old is your baby?

Spudlet · 05/04/2020 13:25

I always would for a poo, DS used to get dreadful nappy rash in next to no time and wake up screaming if we missed one.

moomoobaabaa · 05/04/2020 13:39

I would usually give my babies bottom a sniff before I went to bed, so that I could change him (while he was asleep) if he had done a poo before I went to bed. Otherwise he would get a change at every feed, and sooner if I noticed a poo.
