How to keep 7m old entertained

Any good ideas? He's very active and frustrated. I'm losing the will to live with his constant moaning and whingeing!

We live in a flat and he can comfortably sit up but not crawl yet, much to his enormous disappointment.
He quickly gets irritated with me reading with him or playing for too long but equally isn't happy on his own. He's not tired or hungry, just a bit bored I think!

I could have written this - currently watching DS try to crawl and getting very annoyed that he can't!

There are a couple of things that are saving my sanity at the moment:

  • Online babywearing exercise classes; DS isn't a massive fan of the carrier generally but doesn't mind it if I'm active so we do a lot of babywearing Pilates. We also did a babywearing salsa class last week too.
  • I am doing a lot of cooking and baking at the moment so tend to put him in his high chair and give him food to play with and tastes as I go. I've always done this to a certain extent but am really stretching it out now!
  • We ran a big bath the other day and pretended it was a swimming pool and swooshed him around for a good while.

I feel your pain ! My DS is 8 months and close to crawling but can’t quite manage it yet and gets very bored of me and his toys. We used to rely on baby classes and going out and seeing family most days.

We have used some cartoons for the odd 20 mins to break the day up a bit and I’m still doing one of the baby classes online.

Not much advice, just solidarity!

At least we're in this together!

I tried some of your tips today Calypso - turns out he loves baby salsa! Wouldn't have thought of that either so thanks, Nutella maybe you should give it a go?

I'm going to try the baking thing tomorrow, I think a lemon sponge is in order.

I found some other suggestions - A treasure basket, DS loves this! I just filled it with loads of random baby-safe stuff like a whisk, those plastic laundry detergent cup things (clean, obviously!), a plastic bottle filled with dried pasta (gold dust) etc

I also dig out the V-Tech learn and play table, god help me having to listen to those songs on repeat. He bloody loves it

Fingers crossed for a better day tomorrow

Have you tried home baby sensory?? I used to do that a lot with my little one when he was that age you can buy all the bits and do it at home. I know it's not the same. I know a few baby sensory classes are doing home baby sensory maybe worth looking it up also little notes might too x

I'm in the exact same situation with my 7 month old, we live in a flat and im going mad haha. Her attention span also lasts 5 minutes

Rockinghorse2019 · 31/03/2020 16:09

I did this too! My 6.5 month is so frustrated and bored bless him

Teacaketotty · 31/03/2020 16:37

I either pop her in the jumperoo or sit her in front of a basket filled with baby safe items, clothes, bibs etc and let her pull them all out- she loves it. Or a bit of naked time on the rug always amuses her but I agree it’s not easy!

@Markham1995 any ideas for baby sensory? I've tried glitter in water in a bottle, dried pasta in an empty water bottle and a light up toy in the dark. He likes this a bit but I'm sure there are more things I could try

With my LO I brought a GALT ring blew it up and let me sit in front of the TV. Sensory wise I got a blanket laid him on his tummy, sat up surrounded by ribbons, different colour sensory scarfs, foil blankets, sensory balls, light up balls some instruments you can get on Ebay all so cheap xxx

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 01/04/2020 13:14

Wooden spoon and a saucepan upside down. Maybe maracas or bells?

Megan2018 · 01/04/2020 13:17

First aid foil blankets and juggling scarves are good for sensory. Mine is also obsessed with percussion instruments.

AllTheCakes · 01/04/2020 13:23

My little one was constantly moaning at that age too!

Things that he enjoyed were bubbles, a baby light show, random objects to pay with like a hair brush, a set of baby safe instruments from Amazon.

neverenoughwipes · 02/04/2020 09:51

I've ordered a light up disco ball, bubbles, wooden baby percussion instruments, some of those toy eggs and a water filled mat.

Hopefully a mixture of all of these things will help keep him occupied until the end of lockdown at least!
