From cot to bed...when?

DS is 18 months. Wakes upwards of 5 times a night, which I'm absolutely fine with, but in laws are saying to turn his cot into a bed to help with this, and it got me thinking, when do they go into a bed other than a cot?
I actually have no idea.

My DS is 26 months and wears a sleeping bag so has never tried to climb out! I’m only now starting to think about transitioning him to normal bedding, and after that to a bed so that he can use the potty in the night if he wants to.

DD we turned her cot in to cotbed mode at 13m because I couldn't lift her safely. We just made her room safe and she slept about the same.
DS has never been in a cot, cosleeper when tiny and the floorbed since 6m or so.

I haven’t yet (have a 17mo) but can’t understand how that would help with sleep. If anything I think it would hinder as it’s less ‘containing’.

How is your routine? Have you night weaned?

@pjani

Identical, thorough routine every day, which includes 1.5 hours nap. Night weaned since 9 months. Absolutely no reason that he wakes up, just wants a cuddle

Ds had to be put in a bed just before 18months because the little toad was climbing out! Filmed him doing it too because no one believed us and he was more than willing to show us what he could do😖

Wow fair enough. Honestly, you said it’s not a problem for you so just ignore your inlaws and do what feels right for you.

@pjani

Yes, he is a little horror! But I don't mind at all and really do enjoy the extra cuddles
