Just wondering what worked for others? Just started training dd (2.7) today and it's going ok. Is it now best to stay in until I've cracked it or can I put her into pull-up's for the odd afternoon so we can go out?!

I put dd in knickers most of the time we went out for the first week, but in places it wouldn't matter if she had an accident like the park (where she did wee!) and the swimming pool and took a porta potty. I had her in pull ups, but told her they were special knickers, when we went to tecos and bowling (Nephews birthday party) and she told me when she needed a wee so we treated them just like knickers too. That was about 6wks ago, she's 2.4 now and she very rarely has an accident, although she won't always poo in the loo, sometimes uses her pull ups for poos, but that will come in time. I couldn't bear to be cooped up for a week! We also spent alot of time in the garden for the first couple of days when there were lots of accidents, but she got used to it very quickly. Good luck with your dd.

I couldn't bear to stay in as it would have driven me and dd mad!

I just made sure we had shorter trips out and normally made a point of going to the toilet once we'd got to where we were going - she seemed to like this as I'd ask her if she needed to go to the toilet before we left the house or when we got to the zoo for example. Once you've done a few days you'll get to recognise the times when she's likely to need to go iyswim...

I've kept her in knickers rather than pullups as she seems to understand that she has to go on the toilet in these whereas I'm sure in pullups she'd think they were nappies.

I've also kept a potty and spare change of clothes in the car so I don't feel like I'm carrying a ton of stuff around!

We are not potty training but as an Ecing parent we have to consider weeing outside the house.

I carry a folding toilet seat insert, one spare pair of leggings and a pair of cloth trainer pants like Bright Bots.

But we hardly ever need the leggings/pants...just need to offer an toilet at reasonable time intervals.

Cloth trainer pants are more akin to real pants than even cloth nappies and they can tell the difference. I would avoid the use of pullups if possible, as it is likely your DD will just revert to weeing when she likes.

I see this when my DD when in the care of her grandparents will wee at will if they dress her in cloth nappies but hold on for a toilet in trainer pants. With us she is always in pants so it isn't an issue.

Opps.

I did the same as myjobismum! I just went cold turkey and only used nappies at night. I figured that pull-ups or nappies "just in case" would just confuse her, and she wouldn't learn to hold on to to get to a toilet.
