Newborn cloth nappies- what's the best way to go? Muslins?

Hi,

I am due my third baby next month and really want to use cloth from newborn (although just bought some back up newborn disposables). First time using resuables... I already have some MEOs and tots bots (cotton/fluffles and bamboozles- all size 1) and some small size rikki wraps.

My previous babies were around 7lb.

What would anyone suggest for newborn? Muslin and a wrap? Terries? Fitted newborn size ie xs sandy?

Many thanks

dd was 7lb12 when we started with cloth - bimbles and small Airflows
maybe worth buying 10 or so 2nd hand bimbles or similar to last till she fits the size 1s you have?

ive bought some muslins for my next one to use in the first few weeks until it will fit into fuzzis. there quite big thick ones from kittykins so should work well.

Small size terries are good - then you can use a Nappy nippa rather than pins. Got mine from Lollipop i think.

muslins and a wrap work well for the first couple of weeks, or small terries, 50cm ones with a wrap. They should fill the gap. if you are lucky enough though to come across so Bimbles or Diddy Diapers at a bargain price then they are worth it for the first few months.

Thanks for the replies! Hiya Bodders!

I have ordered some nice muslins through the nappy lady... is a small size rikki wrap ok or will it be too big on a newborn? Might get some terries too...

Will also keep an eye out for anyone selling some 2nd hand bimbles or diddy diapers, I do think it would be a bit extravagant to buy them new for only a month or so of use.

thanks again, anymore advice most welcome

small airflow is fine on dd - can only imagine a rikki would be better as the aplix will pull snugger than the poppers

MrsBadger · 10/09/2007 19:17

(not sure whether the aplix might rub the cord stump though...)

For my LO due in dec i have:
10 x kissaluvs size 0
6 x sandys xs
2 x bimbles

The kissaluvs are teeny, but will be perfect on a newborn, and if this baby is similar in size to dd will fit until about 3 months.

The sandys are slightly bigger and will definitely fit until at least 3 or 4 months (although 'm not sure about the absorbancy as they seem quite thin)

The bimbles will fold down tiny (got nippa ones), and will fit until lo is big enough to fit in dd's size 2 nappies-will probably get a few more of these.

Also have a few miscellaneous size one nappies that fitted dd from 3-7months (when she went into size 2).

Like you i was thinking of just muslins etc for newborn but found bargains on nappylady classifieds and decided it was worth it for the sake of a nicely fitting nappy and also in the hope dh will do some nappy changes-he definitely wouldnt with muslins etc, even if i prefolded them!

I used cloth from birth with my youngest (now 16 months) and my collection consisted of 20 muslins, 1 xs sandy, 4 size 0 Kisaluvs, 2 size 0 Diddy diapers, 13 newborn ellas house and loads of wraps (proraps were the best as they have a cut out) I used the muslins when at home as I liked to save the shaped for when out and about. I cut liners in half for the first few days so they fitted the nappy, but stopped using them once poo got runny as they acted like a slide

Thanks... will have a search for some cheap newborn nappies to add to my collection .
