Child with no COVID symptoms sent home and told to isolate. What do I do next?

Hi All elbow bump

I got a call from DD's school yesterday saying that i needed to go and collect her and that she needed to self-isolate for 14 days. I was fairly surprised as she'd been fine when she left for school 2 hours prior to call.

She'd complained of feeling sick (along with 2 of her friends) and been sent to the school nurse. The nurse had asked if anything else was bothering her. She said she had a cough. The nurse took her temperature which was fine. I get a call. 11yo DD is really upset at being sent home for 14 days and at the thought of having the virus. There is nothing at all wrong with her at all - the mysterious 'sickness' vanished the second she realised she was being quarantined.

She has had a cough on and off since Christmas - it's a little cough that comes out a few times in the morning. I haven't heard her cough at all today! It's not new, it's not dry and it's by no means persistent.

I emailed last night - as the nurse was overwhelmed when i saw her at health centre so didn't feel like the time for debate - and stated that i'd consulted with 111 and that DD was perfectly well and would like to return to school please. But they are insisting she stay off.

Technically now we should all be self-isolating for 14 days - but no one has any symptoms so the risk is that we all go back out in 14 days, one of us catches it and we're back in self-isolation.

I imagine the school will close imminently but in the meantime it's the best place for her to be.

I don't know what to do next. Any thoughts?

I don't think there's much you can do about it now if the school is insisting she stays off. That was silly of her!

Schoola will all be closed shortly anyway and we should all be keeping away from others as much as possible so as annoying as this is, it is largely irrelevant.
I've kept mine all off this week as DS had a slight cough, it wasn't persistent particularly but better safe than sorry.

@IceColdCat she is quite silly :) but she has learned a lesson about when to time trying to skive off!

Doubt it matters OP the schools will close this week I’m sure. I don’t think the household needs to self isolate if she has zero symptoms - not that there’s anywhere to go anyway

Even though the schools may be closing anyway. I'd be rewarding her 'silliness' with a fuckload of chores to ease the boredom of not seeing her mates for weeks.

Probably academic now anyway. Can’t see schools being able to stay open much longer now.
I’m sure you can find her lots of chores to do at home though.

Unfortunately, the school cant take the grace she wa saying for the sake of it.

They probably worried some parents will lie and say their kids dont have the symptoms, to get them back into school.
