My son woke up this morning crying full of cold could hear it in his nose how bunged up he was! , tonight hes just woke up coughing that much he was nearly sick no temp he feels cold to be honest but I'm petrifed because I have a thermometer but good old timing it stops working!! Everywhere I've searched I cannot find one there all out of stock or really expensive to which I cannot afford I really need one !

Whereabouts are you OP?

Someone near you may have a spare one. I know I do!

HirplesWithHaggis · 16/03/2020 23:57

Touch his forehead with your hand. You can feel if he's too hot.

Canyousewcushions · 16/03/2020 23:59

We managed for several years without one- if they need Calpol you can feel that they are hot/see that they are ill. I confessed to our GP when she asked what temperature DC had and I was somewhat relieved when she said she didn't have one at home either.

You'll be fine without one and can replace it when they're back in stock.

@Canyousewcushions hi , only thing I'm scared of is not nowing if it's 40c and ringing 111

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 17/03/2020 00:01

I've never used a thermometer on my now grown up DC. Always did as my mum did and as a pp suggests, just put my hand on their foreheads. I could tell if they had a temperature from that.

Bluebell121 · 17/03/2020 00:02

Il know there's a temp going to come he was like this last year around this time been sick then a huge temp cand is paracetamol same as calpol because that's all I could buy they was wiped out of calpol this is so scary ?

OP posts:
HirplesWithHaggis · 17/03/2020 00:03

If he's not warm at all, he's not fevered. You would know if he was raging at 40, honestly you would. Is he responsive?

HirplesWithHaggis · 17/03/2020 00:04

Calpol is paracetamol, but check dosages carefully.

zombiepara · 17/03/2020 00:04

Calpol is paracetamol, paracetamol is calpol.
Just the branded version OP

zombiepara · 17/03/2020 00:05

You will definitely be able to feel if he is at 40, there's no mistaking it

Widowodiw · 17/03/2020 00:06

A temp may well come as sometimes you start off cold and the get the temperatures at this stage just give them
Calpol and monitor. If he is as he was last year and appears to be ok
Within himself I wouldn’t worry. But if you are worried that it’s different from any other time he’s been ill then please ring 111 for reassurance. I know they say don’t unless it gets worst but if it’s a kid I’d be ringing for reassurance myself.

Bluebell121 · 17/03/2020 00:07

@HirplesWithHaggis oh thank god for that I'm petrifed with the calpol supply been going I bought the last box today this is a joke people can't get baby milk or anything this is genuinely the end of the world

OP posts:
GinnyStrupac · 17/03/2020 00:07

I always feel the temperature on the tummy and back - are they hot to touch?

Bluebell121 · 17/03/2020 00:09

@Widowodiw byes I will be ringing if he does I'm scared because they turned my friends son away he's 1 he's had a two of 39.7 for 4 days now

OP posts:
HirplesWithHaggis · 17/03/2020 00:10

It's not the end of the world, but it's a very shitty time. And some people are showing just how shitty they can be. :(

Hope your wee one recovers well, it can seem like one bug after another.

crustycrab · 17/03/2020 00:12

You would be able to feel his temperature. You don't need a thermometer, it's glaringly obvious. Calpol is just nicer tasting paracetamol

crustycrab · 17/03/2020 00:13

But obviously you don't give them the same dose. Don't compare with your friend. You're doing fine I'm sure

Bluebell121 · 17/03/2020 00:13

@crustycrab oh good it was a silly question but I'm only 23 with 2 kids under 3 I like to no things so I can be on point for when they happen

OP posts:
crustycrab · 17/03/2020 00:18

It's never a silly question! But honestly, they'll be raging hot if they've a temperature. Strip them to their nappy is the first thing to do

Bluebell121 · 17/03/2020 00:24

I will do I don't no weather I need to keep other 2 off school ( step son) and daughter and go into isolation?

OP posts:
UsernameUnknownn · 17/03/2020 00:37

OP check in the children's health aisle they have character thermometers. I saw them the other day. You may have already looked there but I wouldn't even think of looking in the children's bit for a thermometer

Bluebell121 · 17/03/2020 00:39

@UsernameUnknownn hi are you in Leeds or somewhere else?

OP posts:
Bluebell121 · 17/03/2020 00:39

I have rung absolutely everywhere that's closest to me due to not getting on public transport not one person has them

OP posts:
Cottipus · 17/03/2020 03:55

My 2 year old has an on and off fever at the moment. It’s peaked at 39c and she feels really, really hot when she’s feverish. She completely burns up. Then is fine for a while after.

As PP noted, if he reaches 40c you would know about it.

There are some forehead strips for sale online but i didn’t see anything with next day delivery.

It is worrying times as DD has had fever for the last few days but with everything going on I haven’t sought medical advice- yet.

Fingers crossed they all get better soon.
