My 9 month old has tonsillitis :(

Hi, just about to leave hospital where DS 9 months was admitted with temp of 39.5, and unable to swallow. He's got tonsillitis, his throat is all pus and swollen, so hard to watch him in pain.

I'm alternating calpol, ibuprofen, and now antibiotics and a difflam spray. He grabs his bottle but cries after one mouthful because he can't swallow.

Any tips or advice on how I can get anything in to him? Probably ice cream etc? I can hear his little tummy rumbling away 😩

Ice lollies made with dioralyte might help. The main thing is to keep him hydrated either dioralyte or watered down juice with sugar in it. You may have to syringe it into him. You could offer a cold bottle of watered down juice 10 minutes after difflam.

My son is 2 and has had tonsillitis s few times including last week. I try to feed him an hour after his calpol has kicked in to reduce the pain. Its probably not the right thing to do but I always give him more sweet things than normal because I would rather he ate that than nothing. Lots of yoghurt and he loves gravy so lots of mashed food in gravy. It is so hard to watch and I hope your baby feels better soon x

Thank you, we are home now and have plenty of ice cream, lollies, mashed potato etc in. Managed to get about 2oz of milk in to him before he started crying.

Solidarity! My 10 month boy is exactly the same and we ended up at the hospital last week. He's off his food but will manage water on a spoon, yoghurt and fruit purée pouches. We also have some teeth coming in at the same time... Confused

@Springb0ks he's also got two more bottom teeth coming in! That's what I thought the temp was linked to at first.

It's so horrible seeing them suffer. He's asleep now so hopefully he gets a good rest before another day of syringing medicine into him.
