Cradle cap

Does anyone have any tips for cradle cap on (6 wk) baby's forehead, please? I've put coconut oil on it a couple of times, but anything else? I know it's more distressing for me than him. Thanks.

Gently wipe with warm water then dry every day and use coconut oil about 3 times a day. Seems to be better but need to be careful getting it near their eyes of course.

Are you using anything like wipes or Johnson’s products on the face? That looks more allergy related than cradle cap to me.

That doesn’t look like cradle cap to me either.

Could be baby acne? Most babies get it briefly I think.

Hi,

Sorry to jump in, but we've literally just released a video about eczema in babies and young children.

For a cradle cap answer jump to 2:29, although the whole video may be of interest.

This is a better photo - is it not cradle cap? Had GP 6wk appt this morning, and she seemed to just take my word that it was, and prescribed an anti fungal cream?! I'm unsure about using it though, at least until we've seen the health visitor tomorrow... Nothing that I've read about cradle cap really seems to mention anti fungal.

Grateful for any further thoughts. Thanks.

Not used anything on his forehead other than a tiny, very occasional dab of Childs Farm body wash (no more than two baths a week at the moment), and coconut oil on the scabby bits.

I would accept that could be cradle cap personally. My son had it quite badly and I used to soak it in his bath then stroke it gently with a soft flannel which really really made a big difference. You couldn't really see it at all as it lifted off anything loose. Basically gentle baby exfoliation just with warm water. Moisturised with a little oil afterwards.
I did get tempted to try to pick some off when I was impatient about a recurrence he had, and that was a big mistake, even though it didn't seem to damage him at the time... it scarred his scalp and it is still clearly visible today and he is nearly 10 yo! You can't really see it because of his hair but I hope he never goes bald!

2nd pic looks like more like cradle cap, but does look like there's some redness or irritation there too?

Tbh we tried a few things but I think it's just getting better with time rather than a particular thing, although gentle rubbing down with a towel after a bath and before moisturising does seem to help.

EatCakeBeMerry · 16/03/2020 15:13

it doesn’t look like typical cradle cap. If it is confirmed it is a moisturiser called moogoo is brilliant! Nothing seemed to be working on my little boys and other parents recommended it. Within 3 days it was gone
