Female genitalia

Hello! What are you all teaching your daughters to call their genitalia?

I have been using penis and willy interchangeably with my son, but am wondering what to use for my daughter. More because my son is starting to notice that she doesn't have a willy and I want to know what he should call hers.

I know vulva is really the best term, but I wish there was a "willy" equivalent... I don't want to be squeamish... I don't really want to use vagina as it's not really anatomically correct but at least it is a proper word and people are starting to use that more... more than they do vulva.

I don't want to say something stupid like "flower" or "lady bits". Ideas?

We say flower Grin i really don’t like the word vulva it’s an ugly word Grin

AnotherEmma · 15/03/2020 11:15

Ah yes we must have a nice pretty word for female genitals!

Darlingsleepthief · 15/03/2020 11:17

I was being sarcastic, I probably should have made that clear Grin

GrannyBags · 15/03/2020 11:18

I don’t understand why vulva is seen as an ugly word?

AnotherEmma · 15/03/2020 11:20

Oh thank god! You really should have!

One in twenty children (probably more) are sexually abused in the uk. Educate your children on their body and their autonomy and what/who is ok. From as soon as they can understand your words.

My daughter 2.5yrs says vagina. I know it's vulva and when I explain more about anatomy as she gets older I'll teach her the difference. But as of now, she knows mummy has a vagina and daddy has a penis. I think this is clear enough to determine to me what she means if ever there was something she needed to tell me.

Can you imagine a man calling his testicles his penus [sic] and saying 'oh it's the right area so what does it matter'. I don't think so.. is it only girls who don't matter.

Yep, women/girls choosing what to call parts of their body definitely means they don't matter Hmm.

What about "chuff" grin
.......
Gives a whole new meaning to 'feeing chuffed'!

@n00bMaster69 I do the same for the same reason... dd is 3. When she is older I will explain...

Hmm i suppose I don't tend to use the word testicles for my son... seems a bit unnecessary at the moment. Penis is the more important bit atm 😂 Not so different to using either vulva or vagina and then introducing the other one later on I guess, as long as they know which bit is which.

Vajay. That would be what is use if I had young daughters, I think.

I understand the reasoning around 'vulva' but it sounds hideous.

"Penis is the more important bit atm 😂 Not so different to using either vulva or vagina and then introducing the other one later on I guess, as long as they know which bit is which."

So which bit is more "important" for a girl at this stage? The vulva which they can see and touch or the vagina which they are hopefully not going to have to worry about for many years?!

I suspect many people think the vagina is more "important" because that the bit that a man sticks his penis into 🙄 That's the bit that (straight) men care about so that's the word everyone knows and uses.
