Not too unhealthy baking ideas

My DD is three and loves baking. It's a great way to spend a cold/rainy afternoon so we've done quite a bit in recent weeks.

I really don't mind her baking treats occasionally, but for obvious reasons don't want to do that every week so try and find slightly healthier alternatives. We often do cheesy straws (or sometimes a slight variation that uses sweet potato or cauliflower) and we also have done either savoury or fruit pancakes a few times.

Just looking for some nice, child friendly baking recipes that aren't just sugary cupcakes and cookies.

Muffins
Crumpets
Flapjacks
Meringues
Banana bread
Beetroot chocolate cake
Energy bars
Fruit roll ups
Have a look on BBC/Good food websites for inspiration

Or introduce to proper cooking - never too young to do things like fish cakes - especially of fish:potato etc already cooked so just assembling.

Malt loaf. High fibre and fat free and I've got a really easy recipe.
1 mug full each of - Kelloggs All Bran, soft dark brown sugar, sultanas, milk. Mix together in a large bowl and leave to soak for at least an hour, then add a mug full of self raising flour. Mix well and tip into a lined 1lb loaf tin, bake at 140 fan for 1hr15 - 1hr30.

Pancakes

I usually make them with sugar but you don’t have to. I have perfected my pancake recipe over the last two years Grin

Basic recipe:
5 heaped tbsp self raising flour
4 tbsp sugar (or any amount really)
About three quarters of a cup of milk - just judge it so that it’s thick but pourable
1 egg or egg substitute (DS is allergic)

I make two big pancakes out of that then chop them like pizza because it’s quicker.

Instead is sugary pancakes you can replace some of the milk with fruit purée, mash some banana in there, add raisins/coconut etc. Or omit the sugar completely, add a handful of grated cheese and teeny bit of salt.

Some times I make shapes, like letters. sometimes I pour it into a muffin tray with some chocolate chips. I’ve made sheet pan pancakes with it, where you grease a shallow baking tray, pour it in and bake for a short while, with some toppings (possibilities are endless). Then just slice it up.

It’s good for toddlers because it’s easy and it bakes quickly
