Nappies

So... my 5 month old sleeps through from 8pm to around 7am most nights (which is great - we just got lucky!) but every morning he is wet...

Pampers 12 hours of dryness is LIES! 😬

We tried a few different brands when he was newborn and settled on the pampers premium collection which is great through the day but won't last the night!

Any advise or recommendations on more absorbent nappies or do I just stock up on more mattress protectors? 🤣

Lots of brands do a + one for size 3 or 4 and above, ie the same size but extra absorbent. We use Tesco size 4 in the day, size 4+ at night and almost never have leaks.

Burgerandchipvan · 11/03/2020 17:27

Is he wearing a vest? They can get compression leaks if it's too tight.

I found Rascal and Friends brilliant for overnight. And no awful chemical smell like Pampers

Thanks modgepodge I'll look into the extra absorbent ones, didn't even realise they were a thing!

Yes, burgerandchipvan he always just wears a long sleeve vest for bed with a sleeping bag. It's not too tight though.

You could try cloth nappies, we used to use Sandys & a booster or two plus a Disana wool wrap and easily got 12+ hours.
Also look at vest extenders for your vest, could be slipping in the side at the crotch and leaking onto the vest, can happen as baby turns over which they tend to do at that age www.naturebabies.co.uk/vest-extenders-x3-white-c2x9340370

DC2 (21 months) wears size 4 (or 4+) during the day but wears size 6 (or 6+) at bedtime (leftover from DC1 pre-toilet training) I've tried different brands & various sizes before just putting on a size 6 out of sheer desperation.

RandomMess · 11/03/2020 18:05

Stop doing up the vest poppers.

I din,t think many nappies hold 12 hours and neither do I think they should. ButI found 2 parter cloth nappies good. And Morrisons own nappies as good as most other brands. (not a pampers fan either.)

modgepodge · 11/03/2020 18:50

June what do you mean you think they shouldn’t last 12 hours? Some (lots?) of older babies/toddlers sleep for 12 hours, should they be woken for a nappy change? We’ve never had issue with nappy rash if that’s your concern?

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 11/03/2020 19:27

I didn’t reckon much to pampers premium but the pampers baby dry are really good. My son is 2 now and can count on one hand the number of leakages we’ve had.
I think all babies are different but I was recommended pampers baby dry when we had leakages with other brands and they seem to suit boys quite nicely

Spam88 · 11/03/2020 19:39

We settled on Tesco ones for my daughter.

FWIW, I've found with lots of brands the size 1 and 2s are totally different to the bigger sizes, so it might be worth trying some brands you previously dismissed again.

Pentium85 · 11/03/2020 19:40

Up a size.

We always found this when DS was starting to leak that as soon as we went up a size we stopped.

Have tried every nappy going and still rate pampers premium as the best

whitetoblerone · 11/03/2020 19:52

We go up a size at night! Best thing we've done!

JadH08 · 11/03/2020 20:18

Thanks for all the replies. I did try going up a size a few weeks ago from 2 to 3 which didn't make much difference but now he's in size 3 all the time I'll try a 4 or maybe even a 4+ for night times.

I know everyone has different opinions on nappies and each baby is different too but we do like the pampers Premium - I've looked into it and they do + from size 4 so that might be the way forward!

My six month old would be using a size 3 if he was still in disposables. We use two part reusable nappies and I don’t get more than three or four hours out of them in the day. At night, he’s in size 5+ nappies along with the three year old who’s not dry overnight yet. The baby’s will be full in the morning but not burst through. I used to buy Tesco nappies but have found them awful for leaking since they rebranded so I use Pampers.

Cherryland · 11/03/2020 20:59

I must be the only mum that when going up sizes they leaked more! Is always for example when 2 is just that too tight but 3s are too big we would use the 3 and leakage every night until the nappy fit well. Always an awkward baby though!
Anyways bar that we find Aldi’s the best. A PP has said about the difference in 1 & 2 nappies then the 3 being completely different and couldn’t agree more, we used pampers for a long time but found the aldi 3 for a baby with a large urine output the most dry (when she fit).
Trial and error! Hope you find something, very disheartening when baby is peacefully sleeping and full change required.
