Hi all,

Looking for recommendations please of good toys/activities to entertain a toddler (currently 18 months) in restaurants and also travelling. He loves the Melissa and Dough reusable sticker pads but they are quite large. Does anyone know of anything smaller but same idea? Or any other suggestions? I have colouring as a good one. Anything else people can recommend? Thanks all.

Water Magic is great if your toddler likes colouring. Otherwise PlayDoh?

I’ve heard of busy bags but to be honest I’m not sure what goes in them so I’m following this thread with interest

At that age mine liked a tub of Play Doh, toy cars, ziplock of Duplo, ziplock with a lace and a few beads to thread, that's not my book, old purse with a few cards in but mostly my keys!

We found this handy when D.C. was 18mo - 2 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0073BVRZ6/ref=cmswwrsmsscapiiivuaAEbEMPM4BM

We have an aqua doodle travel pad and take a couple of cars.

BertieBotts · 10/03/2020 21:45

Little cars are great, matchbox type ones.

Hema, tiger and wilko usually have some small size books.
Definitely aquadoodle type water based drawing pad. Lift the flap book or similar. Small car.

APurpleSquirrel · 10/03/2020 22:08

WaterWow or WaterMagic. Sticker books/magazines. You should be able to find smaller reusable sticker books. Colouring. Those Little library books.

I found a couple of cheap and small lift the flap books in the range and a jigsaw piece book in home bargain so keep those in my bag for being out and about. I usually have a couple of small toys in there too - currently a little car and a wooden penguin. Tbh I find snacks to be the most useful tool - thinks like grapes or blueberries can take ages to eat!

My DD loves the Melissa & Doug stickers, so we got these to take out & about:

www.amazon.co.uk/Galt-Toys-First-Sticker-Pictures/dp/B00TLRSPK0/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=reusable+sticker+books+for+toddlers&sprefix=reusable+st&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1583882676&sr=8-4

So much smaller (easily nappy bag size), bright, colourful, really sticky but reusable & a variety of scenes & themes! Can’t recommend them enough!

My DD loves drawing, so luckily a pad & pencil case of crayons does us well! Also tend to take a few animal figures as well!

Magformers! My DS has just turned 4 and he still loves them, we take them out every time we go to a restaurant. As they get older they can just build more complicated things.

Mine adored the Tomy hide and seek eggs which was quite compact (albeit a bit heavy in the changing bag).

Wind up toys, magnet or fuzzy felt books, Tegu magnetic blocks

Wow thanks so much everyone some really great suggestions here. I will take a look!
