Tips on how to get toddler to sleep longer in the mornings

I have a 17 month old DS who is a good sleeper but up until about 3 months ago he was sleeping from 7pm to 7am which worked well for us. For the last 3ish months he's been waking up earlier and earlier. This morning it was 5.30am and I really don't want it getting any earlier than this, it's starting to take it toll, I'm knackered and the days seem so long.

Have you got any tips on how we can get him to go back to sleeping 7 till 7 again?

I've read up about gro clocks but I think he's too young for this yet.

He has 1 nap in the day at about 11am for between 1 and 2 hours. He used to have his nap in the afternoon but because he is now waking earlier he's needing to nap earlier.

We have black out blinds and curtains in his bedroom so that isn't the problem.

Amy advice would be great.

Can't help with getting your child to sleep longer in the morning, but the clocks change in 2ish weeks so 5.30am will soon become 6.30am Grin

Mine are 14 and 7, they both still get up between 6 and 7am.

It has been known for the 7 year old to be trying to fix herself breakfast at 5am though 🤦

Some people are just early risers - I'm not one of them!

Dunno but if you figure it out let me know. I have a feeling the answer for my son is lost in time with unicorns and dodo birds.

Nothing we've have done with my son helps him sleep any later. Permanent state of exhaustion!!

Also yes bring on the clock change!

I used to place a box of toys and a cup of milk in my son's cot and he would happily sit in there and play with them for an hour whilst I went back to bed!

Ride it out.
It’ll go back to normal soon. My DS often goes through random phases like this

My daughter goes through phases of this. At one point is was 4.45am 🙄 but then she suddenly starts sleeping until 7am again. No rhyme nor reason.

On average though, she’s a 6am-6.30am waker upper. Seems very normal amongst our friends too.. oh for a lie in!

When our DD is up at silly o’clock, she can come into our bed but I refuse to put the light on until 6am. At 6am, I put CBeebies on her iPad and go back to half to sleep while she’s entertained (not exactly a restful sleep but it’s something). We get up around 7ish.
