Looking for ideas on how to get my ds dummy off him, he only uses it at night but want to stop this now.

Following.. my 3 year old seems to have gone backwards and kicks off during the day for it. We only let her have it if she naps or for bed. I dont think I it helps her seeing her baby brother with 1.

Cold turkey worked well for us our daughter is 4 and we got rid of it a few months ago. There was a lot of tears but was fine in the end. Maybe use the excuse of Easter and the easter bunny needs it. Use your imagination i’m sure you will think of something.

Went cold turkey with day time dummies for DC 2 weeks ago. They are nearly 1. They dont seem to have noticed! Still need to tackle night time dummies. I think we will just go cold turkey in a couple of weeks with those too.

Cold turkey. Depends how old he is but I explained it was broken and needed to be thrown away.
For both my dcs it was a week of pain at sleep time (they don't have their sleep cue and get more tired and worked up) then fine.

Depending on how old your DC are, could they swap them with the dustbin men? They hand over the dummies and the dustbin man hands over a book or small toy? That's what one family member did and it worked for their 2 year old.

My au pair threw DS (when he was aged 2.5) dummy out in the garden on a rainy day. He couldn't be bothered to go and get it and didn't ask for it after that. He knew where it was - he just couldn't be bothered to go and find it! Could try that?

Gracie90 · 10/03/2020 16:40

Cold turkey 100%. My ds was in love with his dummy. Had it all the time. At 2.5 I had enough, told him it had yuckies on it and threw it in the bin. He never even asked me it again!!! Should have done it sooner.

When my DC were nearly 3, we had a visit from 'the dummy fairy' who brought them a gift that they had chosen (& that was worth giving the dummy up for...) A few nights of moaning but after that & it was fine (& I never thought that would be the case!). Ps I did make sure that I put all the dummies at the bottom of the wheelie bin so I wouldn't be tempted to give in! Good luck.

I got my DD2 to round up every dummy in the house. We had really kind refuse collectors at the time who allowed her to throw all the dummies in the back of the bin lorry, then took her into the cab and let her press the button to get rid of them.

Worked a treat!! And whenever she asked for her dummy afterwards we just reminded her she pushed the button to send them away Wink

@whatsthebestname

Wow that is so sweet of them!

Father Xmas took ours away - maybe the Easter Bunny could do the same ?
