Reusable swim nappies

Reusable swim nappies

Are reusable swim nappies any good?

We use real nappies full time but I?ve been with Waterbabies and they insisted you use a disposable Little Swimmers or the like under a Happy Nappy.

We?ve moved and are going to the local pool now, and I would like to use a reusable nappy under my son?s Happy Nappy, but am concerned by their efficiency!

Do they keep everything in? What about urine getting into the pool? Is that an issue? I know older children wee in the pool, so is it really a big deal or is baby wee more toxic?

What about poo containment, even the dreaded teething nappies?

Also, what?s best for a long and skinny child?

Just want to draw on your experience!

The Happy Nappy has no mesh for containment or anything like that. I think it?d need something more!

The Splash About website says the Happy Nappy ?Can be worn with or without a conventional swim nappy?

Has anyone tried the Happy Nappy without another nappy on underneath?

We used a motherease one until recently but ds2 never had any accidents whilst in it. No swim nappy, be it disposable or reusable, will absorb wee as far as I am aware. Just think about all of that pool water .

take the insert out of a fuzzi and use that by itself

evilreturns · 07/09/2007 13:29

the fuzzi, not the insert

I guess what I?m asking is ? as the Happy Nappy has heaps of growing room, is it going to be OK to just use that with nothing else under it?

Hi - I have a happy nappy for my 18 mo dd and we used it on hols a couple of months ago. I used it with just a paper liner inside and with her swimming costume over the top. It was fine and she did poo in it with no leakage

She is quite small and still in 6-9 and 9-12 month clothes and the large happy nappy is fine.

HTH

You see, I hear people double up on swim nappies. Even you had the swimming costume over the top!

It seems that double is the way to go!

Hhhm ? so what reusable nappy to go under the Happy Nappy? I?m back to square one again!

I use a reusable nappy under a happy nappy for my DD and DS2 at their waterbabies lessons, just told then when I booked, no reusable then no money from me! I use Fuzzi Bunz trickle free trainers, a loose hppy nappy would prob be crap for containment

curlywurlycremeegg · 08/09/2007 10:51

Sorry that should have been I use the trickle free trainers under the happy nappy

SAHMof1 · 08/09/2007 14:36

I?ve looked at the Trickle Free Trainer (thanks for the advice, and where did you get yours, out of curiosity) and they?re made of the same outer as a Fuzzi and have only one layer of microfiber, which means they?re exactly like evilreturns suggested ? a Fuzzi without the insert!

I might just go with the insert-free Fuzzi under the Happy Nappy, because I?m not sure the Happy Nappy alone would contain any poo accident!

I still have a pack of disposable swim nappies to use so it will be a while before I get the Fuzzi in water! But thanks for all the advice!!

I used to use an inser free Fuzzi nut the trickle free is a bit nicer, fastens a bit more snugly round the sides than a Fuzzi and has a thicker lining which is a bit more "terry" like. I stock them myself so I just pilered mine from my stock!

montmerency · 08/09/2007 15:36

After scrubbing poo out of an aqua nappy I use disposable ones. I know it's not environmentally sound - but it's once a fortnight until he's potty trained. I know it sounds bad - but I will plant some trees somewhere when I have finished with the nappies.

SAHMof1 · 10/09/2007 08:57

Is scrubbing poo off a swim nappy that different to scrubbing poo off a normal cloth nappy? I?m not being sarcastic, it?s a genuine question. Does the fact that it?s a swim nappy make it different?

My DS has been in reuseable swim nappies since 2m (now 17m). I've tried a few, the best by far are from Mothercare. Cheap (about £5 - lots in the sale for £2 - £3) and strong. Good elasticated waistbands/ legs so keeps in accidents. Mind you, he has only ever had 2.

Flamesparrow · 01/10/2007 08:10

I pilfered a trickle free trainer too - they are really nice.

Just remembered that they are actually marketed as trainers, are they any good for that??
