Spare mattress for bassinet?

Hi all,

We've recently bought an Uppababy Vista for baby when they arrive and are planning to use the bassinet for baby to sleep in when downstairs / away overnight. I have Moses basket sheets for the bassinet but should we be looking at a spare mattress / mattress cover also in case of leaks / baby fluids wetting the mattress? Would a waterproof mattress cover affect the sleep safety of the bassinet? Can you even buy a waterproof mattress cover for something that small?
I have a feeling that I might be completely overthinking it! What do other parents do?

I had a very sicky baby so I always had a maternity mat under the sheets in his bassinet. Worked a treat!

You can also get really big muslins and tuck them tight round the mattress if you have a sicky baby.

I think I had a waterproof cover for my Moses basket and my crib, they do make them small. Would definitely recommend, I believe sick being in the mattress and going mouldy is a risk factor in SIDS, which is why they dont recommend reusing mattresses for a second baby. Not sure if that’s only an issue after a while though.

I have an uppababy vista, I got a waterproof cover for the mattress in it (after the first time he sicked all over it). I think you can take the mattress cover off and wash it though. It's the sides that are most problematic because they're also made of cloth (which is how it's rated for overnight sleeping).

I was also planning to get DS to sleep it in downstairs, but he didn't oblige with that plan, he was in arms naps only for 4 months. We used the baby box when we went away.
