Anyone know how to deal with this? My 4mo has always had dry skin on back and gets flare ups on the face including around ears ( the skin was even cracking and bleeding slightly around his ear lobes). I try really hard not to overheat him and bathe him only twice a week. I use moisturiser like E45 and aveena. Last time GP just advised moisturiser.

He's also had cradle cap for months and can't seem to shift that either. HmmI tried washing his hair daily to a few times a week to hardly ever but nothing seems to work :(

What has worked for you?

I'm also exclusively breastfeeding and try to avoid dairy. Is there a diet link anyone's found?

We use dibrobase cream twice a day and soy oil in for the bath to manage our boy's eczema. For flareups we also have hydrocortisone, you can get that from your GP.

Have you tried rubbing coconut oil on the craddle cap? It should soften it enough that the craddle caps will fall off when gently rubbed when bathing.

My son was exactly the same with his skin and as I was breast feeding I went dairy free and within a month things were so much more improved.

You say that you try to avoid dairy but if you think there is an issue then you need to commit to completely removing dairy from your diet.

With cradle cap try using either coconut oil kokoso do really good happy scalp cream and body wash and shampoo for sensitive skin it's expensive but well worth it I used it on my DD for a couple of months

You could also try using olive oil or baby oil soak on the scalp leave it for a while and then with a brush I use to use a baby's tooth brush gently brush the scalp I use to go against the flakes so brush the hair back to lift them gently and then wash the hair it worked on both my DC it does eventually go

My DD reacted better to the Child's Farm range than Diprobase and other items prescribed by the GP. With her it's not diet related but I also need to use small amounts of Lidl non-bio washing powder & cannot use fabric softener

Coconut oil is great for cradle cap. Put it on then put a cotton hat on and let it work it's magic!

@TheTiaraManager is that Child's Farm moisturiser or bath stuff? Or both?

My DS reacted terribly to child's farm stuff - they're all different, so tread lightly!

We currently manage it through daily (or more often if needed) application of double base gel and hydrocortisone if he has a flare up. At that age, the dr can prescribe a mild one, you shouldn't use the over the counter one yet.

Ours has got remarkably better with age, so there is hop.

Hope, even

TheTiaraManager · 04/03/2020 16:52

Sorry for the delay in replying OP, we use the Child's Farm moisturiser and shower gels

Having the same thing with my 4mo DS! We found Aveeno didnt do anything but Oilatum (which is cheaper and currently on offer at Boots!) Is doing wonders. I also did an oat bath last night - fill a sock/muslin with oats and tie then run it under the tap whilst you run the tap. We were also prescribed hydrocortisone for the parts that were really sore.
