Not sure what to think about DD, she's one year old. Yesterday afternoon she had a slight raised temperature of 37.8, flushed cheeks and was a bit unhappy so I gave her nurofen as thought she was struggling with teething. She was happy the rest of the day and went to bed normally at 7pm.

She woke at 10pm with a fever of 39.9, and was breathing very fast. I stripped her and she seemed ok apart from fever and I gave her nurofen and then calpol and got her temperature down to 37.8. She went to bed and woke up seemingly very happy. Temperature now hovering around 37.5.

It's the high temp overnight which scared me she has never spiked that high before. And I can't see an obvious reason for the fever either, she doesn't have a cold at the moment for example. Could it just be a 24 hour thing?

My DD is 13months and does this sometimes as well. I've just assumed it's her teeth upsetting her. As normally we get rosy cheeks and a high temperature.
So it could be her teeth especially if she's her normal happy self today, I'd not worry too much. As long as the temperature responds to calpol/neurofen and they're eating/drinking there's not much we can do.
It's really scary to see the high temperature but it's a good sign she's happy this morning.
The it time I'd worry would be if she was struggling to breathe but an isolated temperature just keep an eye on.

Normal. Sorry. Their immune systems work different from adults.

2 of mine have had similar temps especially at night & took a long while to come down. It's quite scary I know, especially with a young child but once the temp is responding to medicine, it's ok.

Also, it seems to be part & parcel of the dose doing the rounds at the moment. Hope she feels better soon 💐
