Using cloth nappies

We used to use cloth nappies from when DD1 was born, however after a year for some reason they started causing terrible nappy rash so we switched to disposable as they seemed to stop the rash.
However, now after about 7 months in disposable and feeling guilty about it all the time (for personal reasons, I have nothing against others using them) I have really want to get back into it again. How do I find the motivation to do it? Also I have 2 now and I've never experienced cloth with 2 (one is 21 months and the other is 10 weeks).
I also when digging around looking for the cloth we used before found that my OH dumped lots of nappies unwashed with wee in in a random bag and they've been there for about 3 months 😭 are they salvageable? I really don't want to have to chuck them out.

I would have MURDERED my DH for that. Give him the bag and tell him you need him to wash & restore them ASAP or youll make him eat them

How do you restore them? They smell badly of ammonia. Do I wash them and then leave them outside for a few days?

Id do a couple of rinse and spin cycles, then a hot wash, then bleach, then a normal wash, then outside. But I'd make your DH do it. Honestly, what a dick!

Look up the Clean Cloth Nappies strip and sanitize instructions. It's a harsh regime - bleach and/or very hot washing - but if you've got an ammonia problem it's about the only way to get rid of it. Small chance it may damage them, but if it doesn't work they're ruined anyway, so not much to lose.

Cloth with 2 isn't much harder than 1 you just wash more often and at higher temperature.

With the dirty nappies I'd peg them out in the rain for a while then wash them with plenty of powder and rinses. Then hang out again.

If you find that the nappies are giving your eldest bad nappy rash there is nothing wrong in going back to disposable if it's the best thing for them. You might find that by using a disposable overnight and reusable in the day is better for the nappy rash.

As a positive cloth toddlers often train earlier as they feel the wee before its absorbed away unlike disposable.
