Hungry baby formula

Just wondered what everyone's experience of hungry baby milk is?

Our 1 month old ds is waking every 3 hours for 5 ounces and takes a long time to settle after and we wondered if it was worth switching?

Are these formulas any good? We are on hipp organic so would plan to switch to the hipp hungry baby from birth mix.

Do you switch for every feed or can you just switch night feeds? Xx

I would say that waking every three hours is totally normal for a four week old.

Every three hours is good at this age. It's little and often that newborns need.

Hungry baby formula doesn't have more calories, it's just harder to digest. As such, it's not recommended - at best, it has no effect, but at worst it could prevent the baby getting what they need.

Five ounces is lots though - have you looked up paced feeding? Just in case over-fullness or wind is making him uncomfortable.

My baby is two months old and was exactly the same. He now has six ounces every three hours in the day, but at night he has started to sleep from nine until 5am.
They take what they need at this age and at first I was alarmed and worried he was eating too much but every baby is different when I kept a record of how many ounces he was taking it was just over the recommended amount and my baby’s weight gain has been fine. Try not to worry and it will pass soon x

3 hourly is normal. Your baby is too young for hungry milk despite what the box says. Stick with first milk

Great thanks everyone!

He used to go four hours then I would have to wake him so wasnt sure if he was going backwards.

@Teachingmama that is really reassuring! Looking forward to the stage where I get 8 hours 🤣

That's pretty normal. A breastfed baby could be feeding more than twice as frequently.

Hungry baby formula is less regulated than the first stage. I would stick with the first stage. 3 hours sounds quite good!

Thanks guys- will steer clear!x

My health visitor firmly advised against hungry baby milk when my baby was going through a growth spurt. Apparently it’s of no benefit to baby.

My son slept for 4+ hours and I would have to wake him to feed for the first couple of weeks. Midwife says it can take them sometime to realise they have been born. Now I’m lucky if he goes 2.5/3 hours day or night!
